Aibou TV Season 7 Episode 18 - Where Malice Leads to(悪意の行方)

Subtitle:  Where Malice Leads to(悪意の行方)

Lieutenant Jinkawa wakes up to Inspector Ukyō loudly banging a metal pot inside a sealed room on a barge. They try to attract attention by breaking open a small window at the top of the room and throwing a flare outside, but before they could succeed, a policeman opens the door to the room. They recall that they had been kidnapped separately by masked men before waking up in the barge. Lieutenant Jinkawa finds a woman's cell phone near the ship. Superintendent Uchimura calls both of them to his office and chastises them for making him look bad. Inspector Ukyo recalls that he was asked to come to the front lobby the previous day. However, no one was there when the inspector got there. Assistant commissioner Nakazono orders them to stay at home and not investigate the case. But the Inspector Ukyō and Lieutenant Jinkawa aren't the type follow such orders and start to investigate.

Locations

Gakkō Hōjin Makiyo Gakuen Chūgakkō(学校法人 真清学園中学校) - School corporation Makiyo Gakuen Junior High School. Ms. Mao is a teacher at this school. Takuya Yagishita(八木下卓也) was a student here until he was expelled.

Kamejimagawa(亀島川) - Kamejima River. The barge where Inspector Ukyō and Lieutenant Jinkawa were imprisoned was parked at a dock on this river.

Characters appearing/mentioned in the story

Kōhei Jinkawa(陣川 公平) - Lieutenant Jinkawa returns in this episode. He hasn't changed much since we last saw him. He still has wanted posters plastered all over his apartment and stops people who he thinks are one of those wanted people. He has stopped naming himself as a member of the Tokumeigakari however.

Yūko Kubota(久保田 優子) - The woman who made the anonymous call to the police to report that she heard noises coming from the barge. She says that she happened to pass by the area as she was taking a longer walk to work as a form of exercise. She works for Burai, an IT company, as an administrator overseeing the company's websites. Her family used to run a book store, but it went out of business because they had trouble preventing customers from shoplifting from their store.

Mao Itō(伊藤 真央) - A teacher at Makiyo Gakuen Junior High School.

Lieutenant Jinkawa found her cellphone near the barge where Inspector Ukyo and Lieutenant Jinkawa was trapped. When they return it to her, she says that she never went anywhere near the barge. While they were there, she receives a harassing photoshopped picture on her cellphone email. When asked if she knew who the sender was, she mentions that there was an Internet bullying incident at school, and the victim asked her for help. She contacted the police who tracked down the site's founder, who happened to be a student at the school. The student was expelled last month as a result of his actions, and he now attends a public school. She does not reveal the student's name however.

She is a member of the Burai network. She participates in the online community for the Learning Academy Alumni Association(習得学院同窓会 Shūtoku Gakuin Dōsōkai), her alma mater using her real name. She is also a member of a Burai community of junior high school teachers. Here she registered the school she teaches at along with the subject she is teaching. Some time ago, the teachers in this Internet community discussed about Internet bullying. Ms. Mao posted that while she was still in high school, one of the girls she knew was a victim of Internet bullying. Ms. Mao posted that girl's family business information on the Internet without much thought. As a result, that store experienced a surge of shoplifting incidents, though they quickly subsided after she removed the information soon afterwards.

Yūichirō Gomi(五味雄一郎) - A man who looks similar to the culprit responsible for 27 burglary cases. Lieutenant Jinkawa also stopped him to ask what he was doing about a month ago. However, Lieutenant Jinkawa was not the only police member to do so. Other police members had even brought him in to the police station for questioning before since he looked so much like that suspect.

He later confesses to driving Inspector Ukyo to the barge after two other men knock the inspector out with a stun gun.

Takuya Yagishita(八木下卓也) - A former student at Makiyo Junior High school(学校法人 真清学園中学校 Gakkō Hōjin Makiyo Gakuen Chūgakkō). He was expelled from school for starting a web site used to spread malicious rumors. Because Ms. Mao Itō(伊藤 真央) was the teacher who asked the police to find out who started this web site, he holds a grudge against her. He sent harassing emails to Ms. Mao including the one Ms. Mao received while Inspector Ukyo and Lieutenant were there.

He also created the website Teachers who Get on Our Nerves(ムカつく教師 Mukatsuku Kyōshi). On this web site, he started a thread attacking Ms. Mao. As more people added replies to this thread, he deleted messages members posted to calm people down, resulting in only the negative posts remaining in the thread, and the posters going out of control. Someone posted a name that could immediately be used to decipher Ms. Mao's name, then posted her address. The Tokumeigakari was named as the department that tracked down Takuya earlier, then someone posted Lieutenant Jinkawa's apartment's picture and Inspector Ukyō's picture. Someone stole Ms. Mao's cellphone, then other members of the board knocked out and kidnapped the two policemen and left them locked in the barge, posting the crime live on the board as they carried it out.
