Aibou TV Season 7 Episode 1 - Backflow~Stupor within a Sealed Room(還流〜密室の昏迷)

Subtitle: Backflow~Stupor within a Sealed Room(還流〜密室の昏迷)

Superintendent Supervisor Onoda invites the Tokumeigakari pair to a photo exhibit of modern Africa, then to Representative Setouchi's fundraising party. Shortly before leaving the party, Sergeant Kaoru catches a glimpse of his high school acquaintance Kōichi Kanetaka(兼高 公一) who is supposed to be volunteering overseas as a NGO staff member. The sergeant finds out that Kōichi is staying in one of the rooms at the hotel from a hotel staff working at the front desk, Because no one picks up the phone when the staff member calls the room, the sergeant decides to drop by Kōichi's room to say hi. No one answers the door, and reluctantly, the sergeant leaves but not before slipping a note under the door reprimanding his friend for not announcing his return to the country. The next day, Sergeant Itami calls Sergeant Kaoru and tells him that someone slashed Kanetaka's carotid artery in the hotel room the previous night. Sergeant Kaoru and Inspector Ukyō tracks down Kanetaka's killer who executed an unusual escape plan.

Locations

tōnan'Ajia(東南アジア) - southeast Asia

Sarūin(サルウィン) - The fictional country where Sergeant Kameyama's friend Kōichi Kanetaka(兼高 公一) was stationed at for the last several years.

Kōwa daigaku byōin(光和大学病院) - Kowa University Hospital. Tamio Kyōgoku(京極 民夫) is currently hospitalized here.

Shingapōru(シンガポール) - Singapore.

Characters appearing/mentioned in the story

Haruki Ōkōchi(大河内 春樹) - General Inspector Ōkōchi summons the Tokumeigakari pair at the start of the episode. He declares that the higher ups in the police are not pleased at them meddling in the investigations, especially Inspector Ukyō. Near the end of the episode, he chastises CSI Yonezawa for helping the Tokumeigakari pair all the time.

Yonezō Setouchi(瀬戸内 米蔵) - Former minister of justice and currently a representative. Representative Setouchi drops by the NGO Pelican's office shortly after the Tokumeigakari pair had also entered the office to ask the office staff what they knew about Kōichi Kanetaka(兼高 公一)'s last trip to Japan. The former minister remembers meeting Kanetaka two years ago at a banquet held inside the Japanese embassy in Sarū~In(サルウィン). Kanetaka had come in to pick up another reluctant attendee Tamio Kyōgoku(京極 民夫).The former minister recalls Kanetaka as a young man with straightforward eyes.

Kōken Onoda(小野田 公顕) - Superintendent Supervisor Onoda invites the Tokumeigakari pair to join him and Representative Yonezō Setouchi(瀬戸内 米蔵) at a photograph exhibition depicting the impoverished living conditions in Africa. They later attend Representative Setouchi's charity party (disguised as a campaign donation party).

Masayuki Ogasawara(小笠原 雅之) - Manager of the department dealing with non-ferrous metals at a leading trading company Fuji Shōji(富司商). He is staying in room 1014 at the same hotel Kanetaka was killed.

The Tokumeigakari pair determine that he is responsible for the crime and corner him with the evidence. He admits to the crime but declines to make any further comments after he is taken to Keishichō's interrogation room. He declines Inspector Ukyō's offer to get him a lawyer. The Sōichi take over the questioning shortly afterwards, but Ogasawara maintains is silence, even abstaining from picking up a cellphone call. This makes the Sōichi suspicious, and they want to search Ogasawara's belonging for definitive incriminating evidence, but Superintendent Uchimra refuses to give permission: Ogasawara is still in the interrogation office voluntarily, and they don't have any other evidence besides his initial confession (and partial fingerprints in his hotel room indicating that he used superglue to obscure his fingerprints.) His silence eventually forces Sergeant Itami to take a shocking course of action.

Later a couple of homeless men discover two pairs of suits in a brown bag. The more expensive suit was covered in blood, and Odasawara confirms that both pairs of suits belonged to him by wearing the bloody jacket.

Shin'ichi Tasaka(田坂 晋一) - Ogasawara's subordinate and collaborator. He called Ogasawara's cell phone while the Sōichi was interrogating Ogasawara. The following day, the Sōichi visit the Fuji Shōji(富司商) office after arresting Ogasawara and realizing that Tasaka called Ogasawara earlier, However, Tasaka told the company that he was "going on a vacation," and managed to get on the plane leaving Japan before the police could arrest him.

Kōichi Kanetaka(兼高 公一) - NGO Pelican overseas staff and Sergeant Kaoru's high school acquaintance. In high school, he used to wear a long jacket and ride around on a motorcycle. However, he had turned his life around since graduation, and had worked as a volunteer for NGO Pelican helping impoverished people around the world. For the last several years, he had been stationed at Sarū~In(サルウィン), where he digged wells then taught the local people how to maintain that well. Sergeant Kaoru and Kanetaka last talked to each other at a high school reunion party.

He was killed in room 1006, a luxurious non-smoking room, at the same hotel where Representative Setouchi held his fund raising party during that party.  Though he had always called the NGO office in Japan before returning to the country even on private trips, for some reason, he did not alert the staff about his return trip this time. In his schedule book he had circled several days of the calendar with the words "Singapore, Sky/Empty" written inside. His passport indicated that he had visited Singapore during those circled days.

Tamio Kyōgoku(京極 民夫) - Founder of NGO Pelican currently hospitalized at Kowa University Hospital(光和大学病院 Kōwa daigaku byōin). Representative Setouchi looks up to Kyōgoku as his teacher. Ura Aibou 1 Episodes

The eight Ura Aibou 1 episodes originally aired between 4/21/2008 and 5/1/2008 which coincided with the release of the first Aibou movie. The Trio the Sōichi and CSI Yonezawa appear in these mini episodes, although a few other characters are mentioned in these episodes. Each episode is approximately three minutes long and is comedic in nature and uses elements from the main series. Not all the stories are probably canon, however: for example, the first episode includes a vial from the lost continent of Mu. None of the Aibou episodes have plot lines which include unconfirmed myths such as the lost continent of Mu, although in a very few instances, the Aibou main series alludes to the existence of ghosts or other similar supernatural beings (and there was that one episode with the historical fiction...)

The Tokumeigakari pair successfully tracks down the mastermind who was behind the serial murders and who also targeted the Tokyo Big City Marathon. As the case is wrapping up, CSI Yonezawa sees a familiar face in the crowd of runners: his wife who walked out of their marriage years ago. He finds out that she lives in a rundown apartment complex called Ryofu Apartment(Ryōfūsō 涼風荘) and goes up to her apartment door, but can't work up enough courage to knock on her door. He goes back to his apartment and has a pleasant dream about her coming back to him. That dream is shattered the next morning when he receives a phone call that a woman's body was discovered at Ryofu Apartment, He rushes over to the crime scene where Sergeant Itami tells him that the woman committed suicide by drinking poison. In the middle of the investigation, a man barges in to the apartment demanding to see his wife.

This movie's storyline is taken from the novel CSI ・ Mamou Yonezawa's Case File~The Mirage Woman~(鑑識・米沢の事件簿〜幻の女房〜).

Tatsuyuki Amano(天野 達之) - Tomoko Manabe(真鍋 知子)'s boss. He is an accounting manager at the youth crime prevention association(青少年防犯協会 seishōnen bōhan kyōkai).

He tells Makoto and CSI Yonezawa that President Shirata sexually harassed female employees and the president most likely harassed Tomoko as well.

Tomoko Manabe(真鍋 知子) - The woman CSI Yonezawa mistook for his wife, blood type O. She worked in the accounting department at the youth crime prevention association(青少年防犯協会 seishōnen bōhan kyōkai) located in the City Park Tower Building and lived in Ryofu Apartment(Ryōfūsō 涼風荘). She was later found to have died from drinking a cyanide compound, and the police rule her death suicide. A suicide note was left near her body, and the envelope used to send the cyanide compound was stuck to her refrigerator door, though CSI Yonezawa could not find any evidence that she purchased the poison from her computer's browser's history.

Shortly before she died, she told Makoto that she wanted to discuss something important with him. They were supposed to meet the day after she ran in the marathon, the day when she was found dead.

She had a habit of doing something off the wall right before making a decision. For example, she went alone on an overseas trip fight before giving an answer when Makoto proposed to her. Right before asking for a divorce, she cut her hair short.

She doesn't have any relatives besides her former husband.

She kept a diary which went missing after her death. CSI Yonezawa found a bug planted in her room.

Sanae Takahashi(高橋 早苗) - Tomoko Manabe(真鍋 知子)'s coworker at the youth crime prevention association(青少年防犯協会 seishōnen bōhan kyōkai). She worked in the accounting department. Makoto Aihara(相原 誠) and CSI Yonezawa treat her to sweets at a local restaurant twice in exchange of information about her workplace.

Kōjirō Shitara(設楽 光治朗) - He was the Yamanashi prefectural police chief(山梨県警本部長 Yamanashiken kei honbuchō) and Criminal Investigation Bureau deputy director(刑事局次長 Keijikyoku jichō). He was even rumored to eventually become the superintendent general of the Japanese police force, but he was forced to resign because he was accused of sexually harassing his subordinate while he was working in Yamanashi. Now he is the president of the youth crime prevention association(青少年防犯協会 seishōnen bōhan kyōkai), an important organization where many former career policemen find reemployment after they retire from the police force.

On the night Tomoko died, he was in Sendai. His secretary was also there. They returned to Tokyo next morning.

Makita(蒔田) - Illegal stimulant dealer who Superintendent Kakuta tracked down and tried to apprehend, but instead was taken into custody by a drug enforcement officer (matori). He also sold other drugs through the Internet including cyanide. CSI Yonezawa and Makoto tried to interview him, but the Matori officer who arrested him wouldn't let CSI Yonezawa and Makoto talk to him without a formal request. CSI Yonezawa was able to get the Matori to hand over Makita's computer hard drive which Makita formatted shortly before he was caught because the CSI offered to restore the hard drive for them.

Haruki Ōkōchi(大河内 春樹) - The Inspector General asks CSI Yonezawa if he investigated a case determined to be a suicide, went to the victim's place of employment, and disrupted the work there. After hearing the CSI confirm that this is the case, he then orders CSI Yonezawa to stay at home while the Inspector General reviews his actions. The Inspector General also tells CSI Yonezawa that he is going to be placed under 24 hour surveillance.

Towards the end of the movie, he hands down the punishment to CSI Yonezawa. He congratulates the CSI for successfully escaping from the surveillance and asks the CSI to buy him pizza next time.

Tsutomu Hirota(広田 努) - Head of the CSIs. He came in to congratulate the CSIs on their good work at the start of the movie.

Miho Saotome(早乙女 美穂) - One of the CSIs. She appears in several scenes throughout the movie.

Taishi(大使) - The young boy who lives in CSI Yonezawa's neighborhood.
