 Even as Akira Kosuge(小菅 彬) is being transported away in a police van, his game continues: a small time bomb explodes near the ampoules, releasing the contents and exposing the police members who happen to be nearby to the deadly virus. These brave men quarantine themselves before a special medical unit, the NBC troop, takes them to a negative pressure holding room at the Teishin University Central Hospital(逓信大学中央病院 Teishin Daigaku Chūō Byōin). Miraculously, no one in the quarantined group shows any symptoms except one man who was surreptitiously injected by a NBC troop in protective gear. Inspector Ukyō realizes that there may be a chance to save most of the quarantine men, but he had to work fast. The inspector calls Sergeant Kaoru and asks the sergeant to put his life on the line to save CSI Yonezawa and the rest of the quarantined men. Without hesitation, Sergeant Kaoru agrees carry out this dangerous task, taking a moment to tell the inspector that this is going to be the final case for him.

Characters appearing/mentioned in the story

Akira Kosuge(小菅 彬) - 35 year old researcher at the National Institute of Microbiology. As can be expected, the Sōichi and Inspector Ukyō have and show little sympathy for the would-be-terrorist. He tells the inspector that an infected person will start to show obvious symptom about an hour later. At that time the infected will become infectious.

Chisako Nagamine(永峰 千沙子) - Researcher working at the National Institute of Microorganisms. She receives a call from a member of the Self Defense Forces asking her to falsify the test results to show that everyone in the room was infected. She had plans to leave the lab at the end of the year and go overseas to study the deadly microorganisms up close.

Kazuma Gotō(後藤 一馬) - Researcher at the National Institute of Microorganisms and former advisor to the Ground Self-Defense Force(陸上自衛隊 Rikujōjieitai) protection science Corps killed by Kosuge in the previous episode. Some time ago, he convinced Nagamine to help him steal the deadly virus and replace it with a harmless virus, bribing her with money to carry out field work overseas. Afterwards, he started claiming the virus was too dangerous to keep around, trying to convince others at the lab to destroy the virus so that the evidence of his theft would be destroyed.

Kunimitsu Yamagishi(山岸 邦充) - Minister's Secretariat(大臣官房審議官 Daijin Kanbō Shingikan) for the Ministry of Defense(防衛省 Bōeishō) who is left in an awkward situation as a result of the nameless Special Assault Team member's actions.

Shimota(志茂田) - Lead researcher at the National Institute of Microorganisms.

Kojirō Katsura(桂 小次郎) - Director of the National Institute of Microorganisms.

Kōken Onoda(小野田 公顕) - Superintendent Supervisor Onoda isn't too happy with the Ministry of Defense and let's Secretariat Yamagishi know. At the end of the episode, the Superintendent Supervisor asks Inspector Ukyō how he is doing and asks if he wants to go eat together, but the inspector declines.

nameless member of the Special Assault Team, NBC troop member - He wore the protective clothing with #155. He injected one of the quarantined member with the real virus. He is later knocked unconscious by Sergeant Kaoru as the sergeant takes and wears his protective gear to get into the quarantine room. Sergeant Itami then drops by to wake him up with a splash of water before arresting him. He confesses that he was a member of the Defense Force in 2004 and currently is a member of the Defense Force reserve.
