Aibou TV Season 7 Episode 16 - Woman Whose Hair Was Cut(髪を切られた女)

Subtitle: Woman Whose Hair Was Cut(髪を切られた女)

Constable Serizawa from Trio the Sōichi sneaks into the Tokumeigakari office alone to ask Inspector Ukyō for his help finding out if the constable's high school friend's fiancee was killed by a serial killer who was active a year ago. That serial killer, who chose all of his victims from the suburbs of Saitama Prefecture, used a knife to cut off and take a lock of hair from his three victims. Inspector Ukyō recalls that the case ended with the suicide of the suspect, but there are rumors going around the real suspect is still at large...

Locations

St. Heim Suginami(セントハイム杉並) - The name of apartment where Natsuko lived.

Kyōei Tōkyō Satsueijo(共映東京撮影所) - Kyōei Tokyo Studio. Director Kawashima is filming his latest movie at this movie studio. On the day Natsuko died, the Kawashima staff had been using water at the studio. They experienced a blackout for about fifteen minutes.

Golden Gai(ゴールデン街 Gōrudengai) - A small area in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The location is famous both as an area of architectural interest and for its nightlife.

Flight(飛翔 Hishō) - The name of the bar Director Kawashima supposedly was drinking at the time when Natsuko died. The bartender there says that the director drinks two to three cups of bourbon straight every time he visits the bar, which is two or three times a week.

Characters appearing/mentioned in the story

Toshio Kawashima(川島 敏夫) - Veteran movie director from Saitama Prefecture. His previous works include Superintendent Kakuta's favorite Heartless Tears(無情の涙 Mujō No Namida) and Dark Green Light(深緑の光 Fukamidori No Hikari). Books about him include Footsteps of the Masters(巨匠の足跡 Kyoshō No Ashiato) and Steal from This Person 7(この人から盗め 7 Kono Hito Kara Nusume 7). According to Superintendent Kakuta, the director's works aren't flashy, but his works have a storyline that makes sense.

Six years ago, he was shooting a scene from the movie Light Nap(微睡 Madoromi) when one of the extras, a wind surfer, died after being swept away by the ocean waves. Since then, he had not directed any movies, but recently, he decided to try directing Madoromi once more. He even went to the Agency of Cultural Affairs to obtain grant money for this film.

Natsuko was a big fan of Director Kawashima, and she was helping him with this movie. She typed up and hand delivered scripts to the studio, staying to talk to the director many times. She also dropped by the studio on the day she died to deliver a revised script, though the director recalls that he didn't see her that day.

The movie staff experience rainy weather day after day, keeping them from shooting the final scene of the film. Other members of the staff discuss rewriting the script to change that scene. Director Kawashima, however, insists on keeping that scene the same as the previous attempt, even though the extra was killed while trying to film that scene, saying the scene is critical to the film.

Kaori Nakagawa(中川 香織) - Assistant director. She says that she doesn't remember when Natsuko left the day Natsuko died, though Natsuko probably left by 6 PM.

She does not wear high heels at work.

Itaru Asai(浅井 至) - In charge of the art direction for many of Director Kawashima's films, including this one.

Kōichi Nagasawa(長澤 浩一) - In charge of the camera for many of Director Kawashima's films, including this one.

Shinya Tada(多田 信也) - Producer who wears glasses.

He confesses that Director Kawashima is actually finished as a director. The director would sleep during filming sessions and leave when he wakes up. When the director comes back, he would be dead drunk.

Natsuko Mimura(三村 奈津子) - Akiyama's colleague and girlfriend. She was a big fan of Director Kawashima. One day, she wanted to write her own screen play. She started working at the Bunkō Printing Company(文光印刷社) so that she would get opportunities to read various scripts the company printed for movie studios. Recently, she hadn't been sleeping much, saying that she was writing a screen play she was going to submit to a screenwriting contest.

On 2/15, she drowned in her bathroom between between 6 and 9:30 PM. Chilblains were found on her fingers and cream for dealing with chilblains were also found in her room. The local police department concluded that her death was not suspicious, and her body was not autopsied. Constable Serizawa did notice that a clump of her hair had been cut off during her funeral.

She posted posters from various movies directed by Director Kawashima in her room including the 1983 movie Dash of the Heat Haze(陽炎の疾走 Kagerō no shissō) and the 1988 movie Early Summer Story(初夏物語 Shoka Monogatari), but for some reason, she did not have a poster of the director's famous work, Heartless Tears(無情の涙 Mujō No Namida). There was a a blank space on the wall, just big enough for a poster to have been posted there. She also had a script for a movie called Afternoon Gloom (暗がりの午後 Kuragari no Gogo) in her room.

On the day she died she worked until 4 PM then went to Kyōei Tokyo Studio to meet Director Kawashima. The security camera pointed at her apartment's entrance door did not record her coming back that night. The camera was momentarily blinded by a car's headlights around 9:45 PM, obscuring anyone who passed in front of the camera at that time.

Later, Inspector Ukyō and Constable Serizawa find a high heel shoe print underwater at the movie set where Madoromi was being filmed. Natsuko's high heel shoes matched that shoe print. There were no signs of struggle in the area however.

Takayuki Akiyama(秋山 孝之) - Bunkō Printing Company(文光印刷社) employee and Constable Serizawa's classmate from high school.

Aibou TV Season 7 Episode 15 - Secret Love(密愛)

Subtitle: Secret Love(密愛)

Etsuko Usami(宇佐美 悦子), a former professor of French literature at the University of Tokyo and Inspector Ukyō's teacher, asks the inspector to drop by her mountain villa. She asks the inspector if he could find a close relative of Toshio Sakaki(榊 敏郎), an employee at her villa who recently had committed suicide by drinking poison. Though Etsuko claims she didn't really know Sakaki that well, Inspector Ukyō realizes that there might have been more to their relationship than his former teacher is telling him.

Label found on a jar of herbs discarded just outside her villa

Thé de l'herbe Mélenge Etsuko

Jean Tardieu(ジャン・タルデュー)'s poem

空席 ジャン・タルデュー Empty Chair Jean Tardieu

死者たちが戻って来なかったからには、 The deceased have not returned
いまさら何を生者たちは知りたいのか? What do the living still want to know?

死者たちが不満を言うすべを知らないからには、 Because the deceased don't know how to complain
誰を、何を生者たちは不満とするのか? Who, what do the living complain against?

死者たちがもはや黙っていられないからには、 Now that the deceased cannot stay silent
生者たちも沈黙を守っていてよいのか? Should the living maintain their silence?

詩集『化石した日々』 より 安藤元雄 訳 From Fossilized Days translated by Andō Moto'o

Characters appearing/mentioned in the story

Etsuko Usami(宇佐美 悦子) - Inspector Ukyō's former teacher of French literature at the University of Tokyo. She was adored by both male and female students, and they gossipped which celebrity she might be dating. While the inspector was her student, the inspector would always go up to her and complain about her grading  methods, and she would always stand her ground and explain her reasons for grading his paper a certain way. The inspector eventually dropped her class, the only time he ever did so while he was a student.

Later, she left the university after getting into a conflict with fellow professors over the university's teaching policies. She then became famous translating French poems into Japanese, and is now considered one of the most successful women in Japan. She now lives in a country home in Nagano(長野).

While reconstructing the Sakaki's story, the inspector used the pseudonym "Catherine" to refer to his former teacher.

Toshirō Sakaki(榊 敏郎) - Former employee at Etsuko's mountain villa.

Etsuko found Sakaki starving on the road near her property. A man came by shortly afterwards looking for him. Sasaki revealed that he owned and worked at a small jewelry store with his wife in Tokyo, but he foolishly co-signed a document making him a guarantor for his friend's business. That business failed, and Sakaki was held responsible for his friend's debts. His wife passed away from stress shortly afterwards. He tried to run away but was caught. Those men beat Sakaki up and he was about to be brought back to Tokyo, but somehow managed to escape. He ran out of strength and lost consciousness on a lonely road, and that's when Etsuko found him.

She converted a storage room separated from the main house to a living space for Sakaki. Eventually, he regained his strength, and he started doing some chores for her, including going to town to buy supplies. A week ago, Etsuko went by to the former storage room to ask him to clean the garden when she found the room bolted shut from the inside. When the rescue workers broke down the door, they found him dead on the ground. A brown bottle containing the poison was found nearby. Because the door could not be opened from the outside, the Nagano police ruled Sakaki's death a suicide.

Etsuko had Sakaki's remains cremated, but she did not know what she should do next. He had told her that all his relatives had already passed away. She called the inspector to ask him to find any relatives who could take Sakaki's remains.

The inspector though, wasn't so sure that Sakaki's death was a suicide. There was the jar labeled "Thé de l'herbe Mélenge Etsuko" containing herb tea left outside her home. When he first met his teacher again, he asked her if she could prepare herb tea for him, but she told him that she didn't have any at the moment. Sakaki had an expensive pen not fitting him in his jacket's pocket with an eavesdropping device inside He also kept a French poem collection (one of the poem collections translated by Etsuko) under his pillow. He selected then earmarked the pages containing love poems from the book. Then he added numerous pronunciation marks in katakana for those poems.

While reconstructing the Sakaki's story, the inspector used the pseudonym "Julien" to refer to Sakaki.

Aibou TV Season 7 Episode 14 - A Beauty Dressed in Men's Clothing(男装の麗人)

Subtitle: A Beauty Dressed in Men's Clothing(男装の麗人)

Masako Yamagiwa(山際昌子), president of Yamagiwa Planning(ヤマギワプランニング Yamagiwa Puran'ningu), passes away on a couch in her apartment after falling asleep in front of an electric fan, a big no-no since she had a weak heart. Three people who were supposed to meet the president at 11 AM, Shū Ibaraki(荊城 紫雨), Wataru Yodo(淀 わたる), and Yahashi(矢橋), find the president's body. Though the Sōichi close the investigation into the president's death after concluding that her death was accidental, Inspector Ukyō looks at the police report and notices it odd that rose pollen was found on President Yamagiwa's bathrobe. The rose was delivered the day the president died, and the rose was placed away from the fan and the president. The rose, however was placed in between a circulator and the president, and a circulator would be much more powerful and hence more deadly if it had been aimed at the president instead of the ceiling.

Looking through the apartment's security camera,  the inspector finds that someone hiding his or her face and wearing a black coat and a hat used the apartment's elevator at 00:28:09 on 1/31/2009, a few hours before the president's body was discovered.

Location

Square Court - The apartment complex where President Yamagiwa lived.

Characters appearing/mentioned in the story

Shū Ibaraki(荊城 紫雨) - Former member of the Imperial City Opera Troupe(帝都歌劇団 Teito Kagekidan). She made her debut playing the lead male role in the play Destin de l'amour seven years ago in April 2002. Shortly afterwards, she thought about quitting the troupe, but Wataru convinced her to stay. She recently performed in her last play, Emblem of Sorrow(悲しみの紋章 Kanashimi No Monshō).

After leaving the troupe, she started her own talent school Shu's Studio. Though she was supposed to open the school with Yamagiwa Planning(ヤマギワプランニング Yamagiwa Puran'ningu)'s help, President Yamagiwa overturned that decision and decided to support Wataru instead.

A few months ago, she visited Kenji Sasaki(佐々木 健二) who was living with his mother at the time.

Three months after her retirement, President Yamagiwa summoned her to the president's apartment along with two other people. When they got there, they discovered the President Yamagiwa's apartment doors unlocked. Once inside, they discovered that the president was dead. She stood next to the circulator while the two other people made calls on their cellphones. At the time of the president's murder, she claims to have been watching a broadway musical on TV.

Fumie Tomioka(富岡 史恵) - Former member of the opera troupe Imperial City Opera Troupe(帝都歌劇団 Teito Kagekidan) with the stage name Urara Shiokaze(潮風 うらら) who was initially supposed to make her debut with the lead male role in the play the play Destin de l'amour seven years ago. For some reason, she left the troupe shortly before the play opened to the public.

She currently works at Yamagiwa Planning(ヤマギワプランニング Yamagiwa Puran'ningu).

She wears a necklace with a crescent moon and a purple star, the symbol for the 58th class of the Imperial City Opera Troupe.

Shū asked her help running Shū's talent school.

Masako Yamagiwa(山際 昌子) - President of Yamagiwa Planning(ヤマギワプランニング Yamagiwa Puran'ningu) who died after falling asleep in front of a fan after taking a shower. Even though she had a fatal heart condition, and her doctor warned her against spend too much time in front of a fan, she still often fell asleep with the fan turned on.

Her door was not locked at the time of her death. She usually did not lock her doors because the apartment itself had an auto lock system, and because of this, she felt safe in her apartment.

Inspector Ukyō found it odd that pollen from her rose delivered to her that day was found on her bathrobe. Positionally, the only way that could have happened is if the circulator, which is much more dangerous than the electric fan, was aimed towards the president (and not the ceiling). Since the president would not do such a thing intentionally, the inspector realized that the president was most likely murdered.

She was an ardent fan of the Imperial City Opera Troupe(帝都歌劇団 Teito Kagekidan), and she sponsored both Shū Ibaraki(荊城 紫雨) and Wataru Yodo(淀わたる).

Wataru Yodo(淀 わたる) - Shū's former sempai (by four years) at Imperial City Opera Troupe(帝都歌劇団 Teito Kagekidan). While she was performing in the opera troupe, she was the top performer playing men's parts. She convinced Shū to stay at the troupe when Shū considered resigning from the troupe.

She was working to start a talent school, Yodo Wataru Talent School(淀わたる タレントスクール Yodo Wataru Tarento Sukūru). Three months ago, she and President Yamagiwa were about to sign a contract to open a school together, but Wataru put it on hold after realizing that the president changed the terms of the contract in the president's favor. But some time later, the president agreed to sign the contract with the original terms intact.

She went to President Yamagiwa's apartment along with Senior Managing Director Yahashi to sign the contract finalizing the partnership. On the way up the elevator at the president's apartment, Shū ran into them. Once inside President Yamagiwa's apartment, they discovered the president's body, and she immediately called the police. She was sleeping alone at the time of the president's murder.

Yahashi(矢橋) - Senior managing director(専務 senmu) of Yamagiwa Planning(ヤマギワプランニング Yamagiwa Puran'ningu). President Yamagiwa scouted and brought him in to her company. He then quickly rose to his current position, but recently, he constantly argued with the president. Specifically, she was not happy that he had made a business deal without her approval, even if the deal would have been beneficial to the company. She even told him that once Wataru's school opened, she was going to fire him.

He is currently in a relationship with Wataru Yodo(淀わたる).

He was one of the three people who found President Yamagiwa's body. Soon afterwards, he called the president's family doctor. He wore a black coat to the meeting similar to the coat worn by the mysterious individual recorded by the Square Court's security camera. Several people later confirm that he was at a club in Roppongi at the time of the president's murder.

Mayumi Ejima(江島 まゆみ) - Shū's next-door neighbor with a pet chihuahua. She moved in the apartment three days ago around midnight. That's when she ran into and got Shū's to sign her handkerchief.

Kenji Sasaki(佐々木 健二) - Former Imperial City Opera Troupe(帝都歌劇団 Teito Kagekidan) staff member in charge of stage and props. He left the troupe shortly before Shū's debut. He did other work before eventually becoming a hikikomori. He committed suicide three months ago, some time after he talked to Shū. According to his mother, he seemed to have the most fun when he was working for the opera troupe.

About two weeks ago, he claimed that a grandfather (who lives in Sendai) of a family living in a houses he passed by is going to die, and he died shortly afterwards. He also predicted that a couple living in a nearby apartment was going to divorce. That couple had discussed getting a divorce only a day before.

His mother tells him not to play video games nor watch TV saying that those activities are bad for his psychic abilities. He does however play Monster Hunter on PSP secretly in his room when his mother is not there. He even asks CSI Yonezawa's help getting past a section in the game.

According to his wife, he had been picking her up after work to save on the cab fare since the club wasn't doing recently.

Akira Sakamoto(坂本 明) - 31 year old towels (wet napkins) deliveryman. He was the first person to find Mr. Ashida's body, He recently moved into a cheap apartment near Takumi's path to school because his business had failed. CSI Yonezawa and Inspector Ukyo later discover a bug located in a electrical socket in the apartment near his telephone. The last resident of the room was a young woman who was a victim of a stalker.

He got to know Mrs. Ashida when he talked to her after he happened to see the Ashida couple argue over the club's financial status.

Atsuko Muroga(室賀 厚子) - Housewife who recently discussed ending their marriage with her husband. The husband was unusually jealous of her, going through her cellphone and private notebooks, asking questions about her to their neighbors, and even placing an electronic bug in their household.
