Elsewhere, Akira Kosuge(小菅 彬) kills fellow researcher Kazuma Gotō(後藤 一馬) at the National Institute of Microorganisms(国立微生物研究所 Kokuritsu Biseibutsu Kenkyūjo), then walks out with a batch of extremely dangerous level four airborne virus. The airborne virus has a 100% infection rate and kill rate. There are no known vaccines nor any cures. Akira Kosuge is hiding somewhere within the city and invites Inspector Ukyō to play his "game." Akira Kosuge(小菅 彬) - 35 year old researcher at the National Institute of Microorganisms. He graduated from the School of Medicine(東大医学部 Tōdai Igakubu) at University of Tokyo, then continued his studies at Washington University. He then worked as an assistant studying virus infections at University of Tokyo Institute of Medical Science(東大医科学研究所ウイルス感染分野 Tōdai Ikagaku Kenkyūjo Uirusu Kansen Bun'ya) then worked as a researcher at New York State University where he was a member of the team of researchers who created a polio virus from scratch (funded by the Pentagon) before starting his work at National Institute of Microorganisms as a researcher three years ago. .
He stole a deadly virus sample which he calls "my children(我が子 waga ko)" from the lab in the National Institute of Microorganisms, killing Gotō in the process. He invites Inspector Ukyō to a game and first asks them to come to a waiting room on a train station platform. When he comes by the station riding on a train adjacent to the platform to see their faces, the Tokumeigakari pair are also riding the train having anticipated his move. But Kosuge also came prepared and escapes by threatening to break an ampoule containing the virus. In the next phase of the game, Inspector Ukyō plays the waiting game, ignoring Kosuge's phone calls. In the meantime, they inspect a black case Kosuge left behind while running away from Sergeant Itami. CSI Yonezawa tells them that powdered concrete was stuck to the bottom of the case. The inspector finally picks up Kosuge's call late at night, and the inspector then moves to end the game shortly afterwards.
Chisako Nagamine(永峰 千沙子) - Researcher working at the National Institute of Microorganisms. A few days before the incident, Kosuge told her that he wanted to release the virus to the world. On the night when Kosuge stole the virus, she saw him enter the research room alone past 9 PM. Kosuge called her cellphone right when she was answering Tokumeigakari pair's questions.
Kazuma Gotō(後藤 一馬) - 42 year old unmarried researcher at the National Institute of Microorganisms and former advisor to the Ground Self-Defense Force(陸上自衛隊 Rikujōjieitai) protection science Corps. Nagamine reported Kosuge's suspicious words to Gotō a few days ago. Nagamine also reported seeing Kosuge enter the lab alone to Gotō. Gotō went to check up on Kosuge, but Kosuge knocked him out. He suffocated to death when Kosuge caused a high concentration of formalin gas to be released in the lab. The system was in place to disinfect the air in case of earthquakes and fires.

Aibou TV Season 7 Episode 7 - The Last Fortress(最後の砦)
Subtitle: The Last Fortress(最後の砦)
The police forcibly bring in Masami Tsuji(辻 正巳), a suspect in a pair of drive-by slashing incidents, for questioning. Lieutenant Shūji Nomura(野村 修司) of the Kitamura Police Station(北川警察署) question Tsuji for three days and Tsuji, looking weary, asks for permission to use the restroom. Lieutenant is not pleased and kicks Tsuji off his chair, causing the suspect to hit his head. Lieutenant Nomura orders Tsuji to get back up, but he never does. Realizing that Tsuji is dead, the lieutenant wipes away a bloodstain on the floor, even after the test interrogation supervisor Tsutomu Shimoyanagi(下柳 努) asks the lieutenant to stop. The higher ups in the police department try to cover up what happened in that interrogation room, but Inspector Ukyō, with Superintendent Supervisor's gentle prodding, starts his own investigation into the case.
Locations
Ōtaku(大田区) - Ota District, where the second woman was attacked.
Green Hill Fujigaoka - Apartment where Masami Tsuji(辻 正巳) lives.
Timeline of events
11/23 5:10 Tsuji's watch stops moving.

11/26 9:32 - Tsuji passed away in the interrogation room.
Characters appearing/mentioned in the story
Kōken Onoda(小野田 公顕) - Superintendent Supervisor Onoda relays the details about Tsuji's interrogation to Inspector Ukyō over an okonomiyaki meal. He later asks General Inspector Ōkōchi to hold off performing Tsuji's autopsy.
Haruki Ōkōchi(大河内 春樹) - General Inspector Ōkōchi is sent to the Kitagawa Police Station(北川警察署) to confirm that nothing illegal occurred during Tsuji's interrogation. He questions Lieutenant Nomura and Sergeant Shimoyanagi separately. He asks CSI Yonezawa to check the interrogation report to see if it was altered in any way (it wasn't). He then confiscates the tire tread marks taken from the second slashing incident. Sensing that there was some kind of cover up, he asks Superintendent Supervisor Onoda's permission to perform an autopsy on Tsuji, but the superintendent supervisor asks the general inspector to hold off for a bit.
Shūji Nomura(野村 修司) - Lieutenant at Kitagawa Police Station(北川警察署) whose mother is hospitalized. He brought in Tsuji for questioning, but on the third day of questioning, he caused Tsuji to fall and hit head, killing the suspect. He wiped away a bloodstain on the floor even after test Interrogation Supervisor Shimoyanagi ordered him to stop. He later lies to the Tokumeigakari pair by hiding the fact that they collected tire marks from the second slashing incident. Sergeant Itami catches the lieutenant trying to get rid of the tire tread marks. Later he begs Inspector Ukyō to not match the two tire treads, but instead gets a stern lecture from the inspector on what it means to be a policeman.
Tsutomu Shimoyanagi(下柳 努) - 35 year old sergeant at Kitagawa Police Station(北川警察署), He is the test interrogation supervisor who testified that Nomura did not use violent measures during Tsuji's interrogation. Superintendent Uchimura later calls him to his office and asks him to be the "final fortress" defending the Japanese Police's prestige. CSI Yonezawa runs into him right afterwards and notices that the Sergeant is horribly ill, throwing up at a bathroom sink under the pressure. The pressure reaches a boiling point for him as Lieutenant Nomura is cornered, and the sergeant takes a drastic and tragic measure to end his impossible situation.
Sugita杉田) - Commissioner of Kitagawa Police Station(北川警察署). He submits a report stating that violence was not used during Tsuji's questioning.
Kaneko Yōko(金子洋子) - 25 year old saleswoman and the first victim of the drive-by slashing case. She says that the suspect rode a black scooter.
Kana Takanashi(高梨 加奈) - 29 year old company employee and the second victim of the drive-by slashing case, She says that the suspect rode a black scooter. She saw his eyes through his helmet before he rode away. The police later asked her to pick out the suspect most similar to the face she saw that night from a batch of photographs.
Masami Tsuji(辻 正巳) - 36 year old resident of room 308 in Green Hill Fujigaoka. Suspect in the drive-by slashing incidents. He worked at night and slept during the day, and he was loud when he came back home when everyone else was sleeping. As a result, people living near him complained about noises. He also wasn't a people's person, not responding to greetings.
Lieutenant Nomura zeroed in on Tsuji as the suspect for the drive-by slashing incidents for the following reasons.
- He owns a black scooter.
- The second victim Kana Takanashi(高梨 加奈) picked his photograph from among several as the man who most closely resembled the face she saw.
- He doesn't have an alibi for either incident.
- He caused an accident last year, and the victim from the incident billed him for a large medical bill. He had complained about her while drinking in taverns. Lieutenant Nomura insinuates that maybe Tsuji was upset at women in general.
As a result, Lieutenant Nomura forced Tsuji to go to the police station even though the process was supposed to be voluntary at that stage of the investigation. In order to make Tsuji confess, the lieutenant interrogated him for over 14 hours in a single day, even though the police aren't supposed to question a suspect over 8 hours a day. (Lieutenant Nomura later claims that he got the commissioner's permission first.) Tsuji started acting strangely by the third day of interrogation and asked the lieutenant if he could use the restroom. Lieutenant Nomura was not amused and kicked Tsuji's chair, causing him to fall and hit his head. He stops breathing and dies in the interrogation room as a result of this fall.
Later, Inspector Ukyō discovers a wound on his lips with a blood clot inside Tsuji's mouth. The inspector also discovers scratches and dark blue paint on Tsuji's wrist watch.
Hiroshi, Kusakabe(日下部 裕) - A resident of Green Hill Fujigaoka and owner of a deep blue scooter. The Tokumeigakari pair ask him a few questions about the slashing incident after he runs into them in the apartment's garage.\Later, it is revealed that shortly before Tsuji was arrested, Kusakabe ran into Tsuji with his scooter. Tsuji fell backwards and hit his head as a result but was able to walk away.

Aibou TV Season 7 Episode 6 - The Endgame of Hope(希望の終盤)
Subtitle: Aibou TV Season 7 Episode 6 - The Endgame of Hope(希望の終盤)
Yukio Nishikata(西片 幸男), the challenger for shogi's Ryūba Tournament title, is found dead on the ground at an inn where the matches were being played. He fell to his death from the inn's rarely-used rooftop, but the CSIs discover two pairs of footprints on the roof, and someone trashed his room. Who killed Nishikata?
Locations
Ōme(青梅) - Ōme, city in Tokyo
Suzuya Ryokan(寿々屋 旅館) - Suzuya Inn, located in Ōme. Yukio Nishikata(西片 幸男) and Takashi Murata(村田 隆) are playing the matches to determine the winner of the Ryūba Tournament at this inn.
Characters appearing/mentioned in the story
Eguchi(江口) - One of the reporters covering the Ryūba Tournament matches. Inspector Ukyō was watching her report before the final game when someone discovered Yukio Nishikata(西片 幸男)'s body.
Yukio Nishikata(西片 幸男) - 35 year old professional shogi player and current holder of two of the seven major shogi tournaments, He barely made it through the shōgi training program, turning pro at a late age of 29. However, he won matches and tournaments right and left after starting his professional career.
Though he was extremely concerned about how he carried himself as a shogi master, he was also sensitive to little details such as people walking in and out of the room during his matches. He hated to talk to the media, and Hata was the only reporter he talked to. He was known for emphasizing the psychological aspect of the match, trying to read his opponent by observing the opponent's face and gesture. He was sensitive to smell and kept 10 yen coins in his shoes for their antibacterial effects.
He was the challenger in the Ryūba Tournament who tried to win the crown from the current defending champion Takashi Murata(村田 隆). The best of seven match started out in a shocking way, with Nishikata losing his first match by breaking a simple rule of placing two pawns in the same column - in shogi, a player can use a captured piece by placing it anywhere on the board unless two pawns end up in the same column as a result from that move. Nishikata continued to lose the next two games before he recovered and won games 4 through 6. He left in the middle of the reception held the night before his final match to see Ōnogi and did not return to the reception.
On the morning of the final match, members of the press discovered Nishikata's lifeless body on the grounds of the inn. The coroner determined that he died between midnight and 2 AM, Two pairs of footprints were discovered on the rarely used roof: one belonged to Nishikata and the other matched slippers used at the inn. Someone had wiped the fingerprints away from the handle of the door leading to the roof. A pair of 10 yen coins were found next to the body. No prints were found on those coins.
His room at the inn was ransacked the night he died. The perpetrator knocked over a vase in the room, and the water from the vase spilled over onto the wall and a hanging scroll. A priceless shogi board apparently also got wet, but someone moved it away from the wall and wiped the water and fingerprints away. His wallet was still there, along with all the money inside. Sergeant Kaoru noticed a particular smell from Nishikata's hand fan and a stack of writing papers.A stack of envelopes was placed together with the writing papers, but one envelope was missing. No one heard sounds coming from the room that night.
Takashi Murata(村田 隆) - 19 year old shogi master who currently holds three of the seven major shogi tournaments, He is trying to defend Ryūba Tournament crown from Nishikata. He won games 1 through 3 before dropping the next three games. The CSIs discover his fingerprints in Nishikata's room. He claims his fingerprints probably got there when he visited Nishikata's room before the reception the previous night to ask Nishikata to stop using the fan, which smelled "like an old man" and distracted him. He explains that he did not mention this to the police earlier because he did not want the police to suspect him of killing Nishikata.
Kazuki Hata(畑 一樹) - Reporter for Shogi Newspaper(将棋新聞社 Shōgi Shinbunsha) observing the Ryūba Tournament matches. He is the only member of the press Nishikata talks to.
Hata, Nishikata, and Ōnogi joined the Shogi Developmental Association(新進棋士奨励会 Shinshin Kishi Shōreikai) around the same time and were the same age. Under normal circumstances, they would have to either turn pro or leave the association when they turned 26 years, but the three of them earned a chance to stay in the association for three more years because they had winning records during the matches for becoming a professional(三段リーグ San-dan rīgu). They were not able to turn pro during those three years and were playing in the final tournament to determine whether they turn pro or give up that dream. Hana and Ōnogi lost out early. Nishikata still had a chance and was watching Nishikata and Ōnogi when a shogi reporter asked Hata to record the moves from that match. If Nishikata won that match, Nishikata would become a professional. Ōnogi ended up losing that match by the two pawns rule, the same say Nishikata lost the first game in the current Ryūba Tournament.
Ryō Ōnogi(大野木 亮) - Makes a living by challenging amateur shogi players for money On the night Nishikata died(10/26/2008), the inn's security camera caught him entering the premises at 7:14:17 PM but was recorded leaving at 7:20:05 PM. The Tokumeigakari pair find him at a shogi salon. He says that he went to the inn to see Nishikata the night he died, but he also called Nishikata the first day of this match. In that phone call, he told Nishikata that he will drop by the inn if the match goes to seven games. But when he saw Nishikata for the first time in six years, he was unable to voice any words and left without saying a word.
He says that Nishikata is the hope he left behind.
Fumikazu Satomi(里見 二三一) - He is the scrutineer (referee, judge) for this match. Shōgi rank 9.
Satoru Yamana(山名 悟) - He is the match's recorder (records the moves). Shōgi rank 5

Aibou TV Season 7 Episode 5 - The Faceless Goddess(顔のない女神)
Subtitle: The Faceless Goddess(顔のない女神)
A crazed fan stabs Haruka Nishida(西田 春香), a popular radio DJ at TP Station 80.8 MHz, to death just outside the station. Haruka was going to take over the time slot held by station's current flagship program "Never End" hosted by another popular DJ Laura Izawa(伊沢 ローラ) who just aired her last program. The case seems to end with the fan's suicide, but the Tokumeigakari pair suspect that there is more to the popular DJ's murder.
Characters appearing/mentioned in the story
Laura Izawa(伊沢 ローラ) - Popular radio DJ and 10 year host for the Saturday afternoon program Never End at TP Station 80.8 MHz. She is famous for never having revealed her face to the public before. Her real name is Kinue Izawa(伊沢 絹江).
She airs her last show at the start of the episode. On the show, she starts out by playing the third movement of Tchaikovsky's fifth symphony(6 min 18 sec), then aired the second movement of Mozart's first flute concerto. During her show, she mentions that though she has a black scarf on, it's become warmer and she had removed her jacket. She also warns her listeners to be extra careful when eating mushrooms because someone recently mistook a poisonous toadstool for a delicious shi'itake. She later recalls that she left her seat while Tchaikovsky's fifth symphony was playing to use the restroom. Even though this was her last show, she still asked the staff to stay afterwards for an evaluation meeting.
One of the reasons she supposedly was being taken off the air was because she didn't always play the songs the station wanted her to play, saying that those songs didn't fit well into her program, a rarity for a DJ nowadays. She declined to continue her show after Haruka was killed saying that she plans to retire from DJing altogether.
Haruka Nishida(西田 春香) - Popular radio DJ stabbed to death just outside the station by Hajime Kinoshita(木下 肇). She often had fans waiting for her outside the radio station. She was going to inherit the time slot for the station's long running flagship program from Laura Izawa(伊沢 ローラ) and start her own show called "Haruka Nishida's Happy Time(西田春香の Happy Time)."
Her shows are broadcast live on weekdays, but for some reason, she came to the station on this particular Saturday. Furthermore, she usually used the private entrance (out of the two station entrances) but on that day, she was forced to use the front public entrance to leave the station because a notice was sent out that that day to the station personnel that the private entrance would be closed after 6 PM because its automatic doors had malfunctioned. So it was amazing that her killer waited over an hour for her on the day she normally doesn't work outside the door she normally doesn't use. This leads the Tokumeigakari pair to suspect that the killer may have had help from someone working at the radio station.
Shimako Jinno(神野 志麻子) - Producer for the show Never End who discovered Laura and Haruka, then raised both of them into popular DJs. She was engaged to fellow producer Sakuma(佐久間) at one time, but he called off the engagement and started to go out with Nishida, Recently, she had been trying to rekindle her relationship with Sakuma. A station cleaning staff member saw her arguing with Nishida. Nishida declared that she was going to kick Shimako off the show and have Sakuma produce the show instead.
Although Laura told everyone else on the staff to attend the evaluation meeting, she told Jinno that the two of them could go to a celebratory party after the final show aired. She claims that she left her seat during the show because someone called her. She also took off her jacket that day because she accidentally spilled coffee on it.
Hajime Kinoshita(木下 肇) - Laura's fan who killed Haruka Nishida(西田 春香) with a knife, then committed suicide back in his room by ingesting (poisonous) toadstool. 10 years ago when the showed first aired, he was contemplating commit suicide , but listening to her show made him decide to live another day. He eventually became a huge fan of Laura and her show. Over the years, he sent many postcards to the station and even started a website dedicated to her. However, the ending of the show had sent him into depression yet again, and he even wrote on the website that he felt like committing suicide. During Never End's final show, he receives a phone call made from a public phone in the radio station at 2:06 PM, while Tchiaikovsky's fifth symphony played.
Ryūzaki(竜崎) - Director at the station. He tells the Tokumeigakari pair that Laura told the staff members including him that they were still going to hold an evaluation meeting even though this was her final show. He recalls that during the final show bot Shimako and Laura left their seats, Shimako first, then Laura.
Sakuma(佐久間) - Producer for Haruka Nishida(西田 春香)'s program and Haruka's lover. He was engaged to Shimako some time in the past before calling it off.
He was scheduled to do a public service radio segment with Superintendent Kakuta to warn the listeners about poisonous mushrooms, that ingesting them is not a painless way to commit suicide and that they are similar in appearance to edible mushrooms.

Aibou TV Season 7 Episode 4 - The Woman Next Door(隣室の女)
Subtitle: The Woman Next Door(隣室の女)
A pair of hikers find a skeletonized body of man along with his cellphone and a knife used to kill him. Akemi, who was carrying on an affair with Takahiko Komori(小森 孝彦) at the time he disappeared, is the primary suspect, but her fingerprints don't match the fingerprints lifted from the murder weapon. Who killed the man and why?
Locations
Kanagawa Ken(神奈川県) - Kanagawa Prefecture, location of Kawasaki City
Kawasaki Shi(川崎市) - Kawasaki City, where Tokio Yokoyama(横山 時雄) committed the murder.
Characters appearing/mentioned in the story
SPOILER ALERT - I had a hard time writing the following section without including this story's major plot twist, so I decided to include the twist in the following character descriptions.
Takahiko Komori(小森 孝彦) - The man who vanished 6 years ago on 9/13/2002. He was 33 years old at the time. He left his wife in Hokkaido and came to Tokyo for work, but carried on an affair with Akemi while in Tokyo. He last talked to Akemi before he disappeared. Keiko Yokoyama(横山 慶子)'s telephone number was not registered on his cellphone.
Akemi Kishi( 岸 あけみ) - She was a hostess who worked at Snack Passion. She didn't have any living blood relatives, nor friends. She found someone she could relate to with her next door neighbor Keiko Yokoyama(横山 慶子) and was nice to Keiko even after finding out that Keiko's brother had committed murder.
She carried on an affair out with Takahiko Komori(小森 孝彦), but killed him after getting into a lover's quarrel. A week later on on 9/20/2002, she committed suicide by drinking potassium cyanide .
She called her lover "Takahiko san" in an email she sent him.
The apartment she lived in was turned into a marriage agency called Partner Research Club(パートナーリサーチクラブ) (yes, the same one Sergeant Itami tries to call in Ura Aibou Episode 8).
Hiromichi Miura(三村 弘道) - Policeman who helped the Tokumeigakari pair at the Okusawa Police Station(奥沢警察署).
Keiko Yokoyama(横山 慶子) - Her parents died when she and her brother were in elementary school. She was a high school student living with her brother Tokio when Tokio committed the murder. As a result, her high school classmates made her life a living hell. Even after graduating and finding work, coworkers somehow caught wind of her brother's circumstances and kept her at a distance.
Even after being treated coldly by the people around her, she travelled the surviving family's residence to apologize every anniversary of Tokio's acquaintance's death, The acquaintance's family chased her away each time. She also did not spend money on luxury items, neither buying any expensive clothes nor taking trips during vacation so that she could send some of the money from all her paycheck to the bereaved family,
6 years ago when she lived in the room next to Akemi, she was a 22 year old temporary staff at a call center. When Akemi committed suicide, she moved Akemi's body into her room with Yōichi's help and made it look as if Keiko herself had committed suicide. Keiko hastily wrote and left behind a note addressed to her brother Tokio asking him to continue atoning for his sins, Keiko then pretended to be Akemi and called the police telling them that she found "Keiko's" body.
After Takahiko's skeletonized body was discovered, she is brought in for questioning by the Sōichi because Akemi was the last person to call him and because Akemi's emails indicating that they were in a relationship were discovered on Takahiko's cellphone. Keiko, not knowing details about Akemi's relation with called Takahiko "Takahiko" (without any honorifics) in the interrogation room. Sh also claims that she broke off their relationship shortly before Takahiko was killed.
Later, when asked why she was the first person to discover "Keiko's" body, she says that Takahiko had a relationship with both Akemi and Keiko, she thought that maybe "Keiko" would know where he was. When asked why she tried to contact Takahiko shortly after she broke up with him, she claimed that she had money problems and wanted to ask him for money. Oddly enough however, she had left her last paycheck from Snack Passion behind, which she explains away claiming that her mind was scattered because she was also moving out at the time.
Later, she "reveals" that she had planned to drink the potassium cyanide (that she took from the matron of Snack Passion Yōko) out of spite for Takahiko, but "Keiko" stole the potassium cyanide before before she could use it. She continues to explain that because she feared that she might be accused of killing "Keiko" she moved away from the apartment shortly afterwards. She hesitated to use the poison immediately after obtaining it because she realized that she was pregnant.
Tokio Yokoyama(横山 時雄) - Keiko's elder brother who murdered a friend/coworker with an ashtray at a building company on 7/8/1998 after the friend/coworker tried to default on a loan. He had been incarcerated for that murder when he heard that his sister had committed suicide.
He is now out on parole and works as a cleaning staff. He supposedly got rid of everything belonging to Keiko because they reminded him of Keiko and was too painful for him. Later he confirms that final words were written in his sister's handwriting and also that his sister had visited him a few days before "Keiko" committed suicide, mentioning that she was seeing someone new.
Yōichi Fukui(福井 陽一) - Keiko's former fiancee. His parents forced him to call off the engagement after Keiko's brother Tokio committed a murder. However, he continued the relationship even after he had called off the engagement. He was there when Akemi committed suicide (and Keiko switched identities) to take care of the cleanup. He provided "Keiko's" photograph taken on 8/12/2001 and hair clip to the Tokumeigakari pair. He also claims that he hadn't seen her for six months before "Keiko" committed suicide.
Yōko Hosokawa(細川 洋子) - Proprietress of Snack Bar Passion(スナック パッション), and Akemi 's boss when she worked here. She says that although Takahiko first spent money on Akemi, Akemi became infatuated with him and repeatedly asked him to divorce his wife so that they could get together.
Six years ago, Yōko was frustrated with her life, since she was mired in debt and the man she was seeing ran away. She considered taking her own life and she ordered potassium cyanide from an online site. Akemi was present when she received the vial of poison, and Akemi somehow convinced Yōko not to go through with her suicide and then took the potassium cyanide to dispose of it.
Akemi called Yōko one day to say that she is quitting from her job as a hostess because she became pregnant. "Akemi" moved away from her apartment shortly afterwards, forgetting to pick up her last paycheck.
Shunpei Yokoyama(横山 駿平) - Keiko's son.

Aibou TV Season 7 Episode 3 - A Canary's Silence(沈黙のカナリア)
Subtitle: Aibou TV Season 7 Episode 3 - A Canary's Silence(沈黙のカナリア)
Representative Shinji Gotō(後藤 新次)'s policy secretary Tadashize Nakamura(中村 忠是) is killed when a binary component bomb explodes inside the representative's office. How did the bomb get past the tight security in the congressional office building? Was Nakamura collateral damage in the bomber's attempt to kill Representative Gotō or was the secretary himself the target, and if so, why?
Characters appearing/mentioned in the story
Shinji Gotō(後藤 新次) - Member of the House of Representatives who took over his father's district after his father suddenly passed away, He was recently appointed the Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare. As a result, he received many congratulatory gifts. However, he also received several threatening letters, though he did not know about them because Secretary Nakamura hid the letters from the Representative. The bomb apparently was disguised as one of those gifts. Though he was hospitalized after the blast, he survived and left the hospital shortly afterwards.
When Secretary Matsuoka picked up the representative from this hospital, he asked Secretary Matsuoka to go back to the office and find compromising photographs that a blackmailer sent him earlier. Though both secretaries recommend that the representative come clean about this to the public, the Representative refuses and burns the incriminating photographs and also decides to pay of the blackmailers.
Shinichi Gotō(後藤 真一) - Representative Shinji's late father. He was the Minister of International Trade and Industry who is famous for protecting Japan's coal-mining industry. In order to change the public image that coal mines were dangerous, he had the coal mines install the latest safety features. In spite of this, five people died in a coal-mining accident.
Tadakore Nakamura(中村 忠是) - 66 year old policy secretary for Representative Shinji Gotō(後藤 新次) and for former Shinichi Gotō(後藤 真一) before that. He died when a binary component bomb exploded in the representative's office. He is actually the one who convinced Representative Shinji Gotō(後藤 新次) to hire Matsuoka as a secretary five years ago.
Kyōsuke Matsuoka(松岡 京介) - Representative Gotō's secretary for five years who was born in a coal-mining town in Hokkaido. Shinji Gotō(後藤 新次) was his senpai in the politics circle when both men attended the same university. When Shinji's father suddenly passed away, he asked Matsuoka if Matsuoka would be interested in becoming his secretary.
He has a habit of spending a lot of time carefully washing his hands.
Yūsaku Kotani(小谷 雄作) - Secretary Matsuoka's father who died in a coal mining accident years ago.
Takeo Kotani(小谷 妙子) - Secretary Matsuoka's mother who committed suicide when Matsuoka was still a child.
Kido(木戸) - Head of the Public Security Intelligence Agency at Keishichō. He is not happy that the Keishichō is taking its sweet time with the investigation and let's Superintendent Uchimura know.
Tadashi Taneda(種田 正) - Part time worker for City Plant(シティプラント) who delivered a pot of phalaenopsis (which contained both the black soil Takamoto added and the nutritional supplement Nakai added) to Representative Gotō's office. He entered the Second Members' Office Building of the House of Representatives at10:50 and left at 11:15.
He gave Nobuyoshi Takamoto(高本 信嘉) and Masato Nakai(中井 雅人) exact instructions for which flower pots to either refill with black dirt or with the nutritional supplement.
He had struggled through life, and as a result, he didn't have a permanent residence. Instead, he stayed at various net cafes. The Sōichi suspect that Taneda bombed Representative Gotō's office because he was jealous of the highly successful representative who was the same age as him. The day after the bombing, the Sōichi discover that Taneda left behind incriminating evidence at one of the net cafes he had stayed in.
Taneda apparently collected a large amount of information about Representative Gotō's office including pictures inside the building, building plans for the representative's office, and security plans for the building. The Sōichi also found a copy of the threatening letters that were sent to the representative. A memory stick was left along with those printouts which contained the original data used to create the fake temporary agency web site and a document containing statements indicating that he was upset with Representative Gotō.
Inspector Ukyō notices that one of the building plans he printed had blurred ink from water damage on one corner. This is odd, since Taneda would have printed these documents at a net cafe which all use commercial laser printers. The ink used on printouts from laser printers don't blur from water damage.
Nobuyoshi Takamoto(高本 信嘉) - Temporary worker for the plant maintenance company Green Shop(グリーンショップ). On the day the bomb went off, he entered the Second Members' Office Building of the House of Representatives at 10:05 and left at 11:00. During that time, he went around to the plants on the third and fourth floors and filled some of those pots with dark black soil. He applied for this job through a very-well-made but fake temporary agency web site.
Masato Nakai(中井 雅人) - Temporary worker for Tokyo Gardening(東京園芸 Tōkyō Engei). On the day the bomb went off, he entered the Second Members' Office Building of the House of Representatives at 10:30 and left at 11:05. During that time, he went around to the plants on the fourth and fifth floors and stuck a plastic vial supposedly filled with nutritional supplements into some of those plants' pots. He applied for this job through a very-well-made but fake temporary agency web site.
Ryōhei Inoue(井上 陵平) - He had been arrested for violating of the cannabis control law. He sold drugs to Shinji Gotō(後藤 新次) when Gotō was younger.
