Subtitle: An Edited Murder(編集された殺人)
Miho Tsubaki(椿 美穂), the proprietress for Snack Bar Tsubaki(スナック椿), is on trial for her husband's murder. During the trial the prosecutor runs video footage from the testimony given by Yōko Mishima(三島 陽子), a part time worker at Snack Bar Tsubaki(スナック椿). Though Yōko was supposed to have given testimony in favor of Miho, the video footage shows Yōko giving testimony unfavorable for Miho. That night Yōko is murdered. Did Miho really murder her husband? Who killed Yōko, and how are the two murders related?
Characters appearing/mentioned in the story
Kaori Mutō(武藤 かおり) - Lawyer who is defending Miho.
Tsukasa Nabeshima(鍋島 司) - Prosecutor who is handling the case against Miho.
Yōko Mishima(三島 陽子) - Part time worker who went to work at Snack Bar Tsubaki(スナック椿)only on weekends. She was killed by a blow to her head between 10 PM and 12 AM the night after a video recording of her testimony ran at Miho's trial. Based on the blood found at the scene, the police concluded that she was killed somewhere else and her body dumped outside later. Inspector Ukyō determines that she was killed in the now-closed Snack Bar Tsubaki.
Yōko told Lawyer Mutō that Yōko agreed to talk to the prosecutors only because she thought that her testimony would help Miho. However, the recording of her testimony that ran during Miho's trial seemed to show Yōko claiming that Miho's snack was losing money and that the Tsubaki couple fought every day when the customers weren't there.
In fact, Yōko had secretly made a voice recording of the testimony she gave to the prosecutor. Listening to this, Inspector Ukyō concluded that the prosecutor edited her testimony to present only the parts advantageous to the prosecutor.
The snack bar gave out matches and was in the process of switching to lighters. Only one lighter, a sample, was made, and it was sent to the store on Monday 10/29, the day Tomoaki was killed. For some reason, Yōko had that lighter in her possession. She even used it when she gave her testimony to the prosecution, although she never revealed the store logo in the recording.
Miho Tsubaki(椿 美穂) - Proprietress of Snack Bar Tsubaki(スナック椿). She was the first person to discover her husband's Tomoaki's body. She talked to her father when her husband was killed, but since she used a cellphone, this conversation did not exclude her as a suspect. As a result, the police charged her with the murder of her husband. Even though she confessed to the crime during interrogation, she went back on her confession during the trial.
Hiroshi Horizoe(堀添 博) - Miho's father. When Tomoaki was killed, Mr. Horizoe was sick, and Miho had called her father to check up on him.
He claims that Yōko betrayed Miho after watching Miho's recorded testimony in court and also mentioned that she was smoking using a lighter from Snack Bar Tsubaki. He also claims that he's never met Miho personally.
Tomoaki Tsubaki(椿 友章) - Miho's husband. He was murdered in his own store with a knife from the store about two months ago.
