 Fujio Tabase(田橋 不二夫), husband to a famous mystery writer Shizuru Yomogi(蓬城 静流), is found dead from a gunshot wound in his home office. He left behind a suicide note, leading the police to believe that Fujio took his own life. Inspector Ukyō notices several missing items - a revolver with one missing bullet, a missing cushion and a missing encyclopedia volume, leading him to suspect Mr. Tabase's death may not have been a simple suicide. Can the Inspector reconstruct what happened in this room?

Shizuru Yomogi(蓬城 静流) - Pen name for a popular mystery writer, real name Shizue Tahashi(田橋 静枝). Her works include Color of Murderous Intent series(殺意の色 Satsui no Iro), though she hasn't published a new book for the last five years. She didn't flinch at all when the police tell her that her husband committed suicide with a gun.

Fujio Tahashi(田橋 不二夫) - Shizuru's husband and president of Office Yomogi. He was found dead with a gun in his right hand. His fingerprints were on the gun and gunpowder was found on his hand. He died between 9 and 10 PM and left a typed suicide note on his computer. A trace amount of syrup was found on his lips. He bought the gun through the Internet from a member of the Tōshūkai(東州会) gang about half a month ago. The security camera at his apartment didn't record anyone suspicious pass by around the time he died. For some reason, he purchased and kept a ladder, a rope, blue plastic sheets, and a shovel inside his car parked outside his apartment.

Even though the editors at Shunyō Publishing(春陽出版 Shunyō Shuppan) called them a mantis couple, the magazine Imperial Walker(帝都ウォーカー Teito U~ōkā) described them as lovebirds.

Ino(伊能) - Editor for Shunyō Publishing(春陽出版 Shunyō Shuppan) and who works with Shizuru Yomogi(蓬城 静流). He watched Mrs. Yomogi enter her study to continue writing around 8:30 PM the night her husband died. She came out of the room to give him the completed essay around 11:30 PM. During that time, he didn't see nor talk to Mrs. Yomogi. According to Ino, Mrs. Yomogi worked alone undisturbed when she wrote.

Kase(加瀬) - Part time worker at Office Yomogi. He discovered Mr. Tahashi's body shortly before noon. When he came to the office, he found that the front doors were locked.
