Someone bludgeoned Shigehiro Katsumura(勝村 繁彦),the editor working with Miwako on her first book Forest of Silence (沈黙の森 Chinmoku No Mori), to death. Takeru Shōji(庄司 タケル), a popular author, recently had a heated argument with the editor. Shōji even told an editor that he was going to kill Katsumura. Did the popular author kill the defiant editor?
Characters appearing/mentioned in the story
Takeru Shōji(庄司 タケル) - Popular author of love novels. He used to work at a host club, but his blog posts about the underbelly of the night life became popular and led him to write his first novel.
He recently released the immensely popular Bitter Love, which was going to be made into a film. The heroine of the book uses Natsumi mascara(なつみマスカラ Natsumi Masukara) a tie-in product made by Elise Cosmetics, for her first date. He stood to make a lot of money should the cosmetic sell well, and he was upset that Katsumura was trying to get the book Forest of Silence published, a book which criticizes Elise Cosmetics. The author even threatened to publish the sequel to Bitter Love through another publishing company. He was seen arguing with Katsumura three days before Katsumura was found dead.
He is hot tempered and had been arrested while working at a host club for causing injuries: after getting into an argument, he hit a customer over the head with a beer bottle.
He says that there are two classes of people - those who look down on other people and those who are looked down by other people.
Yoshiki Andō(安藤 芳樹) - Book cover designer(装丁家) who works from his office Design Office Ando. He has designed numerous covers for Katsumura, and he also designed the book cover for Takeru Shōji's Bitter Love. He read the manuscript for Forest of Silence and especially loved the work's memorable introduction. For the Forest of Silence's book cover, he drew fireflies that lived in the area before the forests were polluted.
Shigehiro Katsumura(勝村 繁彦) - Editor for the Sankō Publishing Company(讃光社) who was killed after he was hit on the head between 10 PM and 12 AM. His body was carried, dragged, and dumped in a vacant lot. The last person he talked to on his cellphone was Miwako. In that conversation, Miwako told him that she had sent the latest manuscript of her book to him. She was going to meet him at the publishing company to sign the contract for her book in the afternoon on the day his body was discovered. He had red ink on his fingers.
He didn't get along with his coworkers at work because he defied corporate policies and tried to champion hard-hitting works even if they may not have sold well. He also let his opinions be known. For example, he had published an article criticizing a popular author in this months issue of Literary World(文芸世界 Bungei Sekai). As a result, he also often argued with various authors.
Shōgo Hidaka(日高 正吾) - Editor for the Sankō Publishing Company(讃光社) who worked with Takeru Shōji(庄司 タケル).
Yoshiko Saotome(早乙女 佳子) - Works at the public relations department for Elise Cosmetics(エリセ化粧品 Erise Keshōhin). Elise Cosmetics decided to sponsor the movie Bitter Love. She explains to Takeru Shōji that a special line of cosmetics will go on sale only while the movie is in the theaters and also asks the author to include other products from Elise Cosmetics in his future works.
