 Kumiko Akikawa(秋川 久美子), a forty-year old stay-at-home mother, is shot and killed with a remodeled gun. The Tokumeigakari pair go through past cases where remodeled guns were used and zero in on Kengo Iwasaki(岩崎 謙吾), a gun remodeling fanatic. They then visit the Ikenami Station(池波署) - the policemen from this station arrested and sent Iwasaki to the prosecutor in a previous case. There, they get a hold of shocking evidence hinting that improprieties at the Ikenami Station may have lead to Mrs. Akikawa's death. Determined to keep this hidden, the policemen working at the Ikenami Station assault Sergeant Kameyama and steal back the evidence indicating these improprieties. Can the Tokumeigakari pair reveal the Ikenami Station's dark secrets to the public?

Characters appearing/mentioned in the story

Takeshi Kitamura(北村 武) - Ikenami Station Chief who worked with Sergeant Kaoru in the past. He claims that the station paid out money to Mrs. Akikawa because she grabbed Iwasaki's clothes as he was trying to escape, helping the police apprehend him. He has a four year old daughter.

Kengo Iwasaki(岩崎 謙吾) - Remodeling guns fanatic and a police wannabe. He was arrested by the policemen from the Ikenami Station(池波署) three months ago for shooting a cat with a remodeled gun. He later hacked into the Ikenami Police station computers and got hold of their expenditure report. The report included a payment to Kumiko Akikawa(秋川 久美子) for helping the police apprehend Iwasaki. Iwasaki believed that Mrs. Akikawa turned him in based on this report.

Susumu Hayashi(林 進) - Kitamura's subordinate.

Kumiko Akikawa(秋川 久美子) - 40 year old stay-at-home mother who was murdered by a remodeled gun between 9 and 10 PM. Even though Kengo Iwasaki(岩崎 謙吾) shot her thinking she turned him in, it turns out that another woman witnessed Iwasaki shooting a cat and turned him in.

Kōken Onoda(小野田 公顕) - Inspector Ukyō discusses the misappropriation of funds at the  Ikenami Station(池波署) with Superintendent Supervisor Onoda over dinner at a tempura restaurant.

Haruki Ōkōchi(大河内 春樹) - General Inspector Ōkōchi, along with Superintendent Supervisor Onoda and Superintendent Uchimura, discusses the misappropriation of funds at the Ikenami Station(池波署), Kumiko Akikawa(秋川 久美子)'s death, and the assault on Sergeant Kaoru with Inspector Ukyō at the end of the story.
