Aibou TV Season 3 Episode 16 - Human Bomb(人間爆弾)

 Eiichi is back in Tokyo on a business trip, but this was not what he expected. He was knocked unconscious with a stun gun and later finds that he is wearing a vest made from explosives. He receives a call on a cellphone left near him, and the voice on the other end orders him to go rob money from a armored vehicle carrying money for a bank if he did not want to be blown up. Eiichi manages to contact the Tokumeigakari pair, and Sergenat Kaoru removes the bomb from Eiichi before it goes off. The second victim suffers a similar fate, and the Tokumeigakari pair race to track down the culprit before there is a third victim.

Event

Dai Hokkaidō-ten Kita no hakurankai(大北海道展 北の博覧会) - Large Hokkaidō Exhibition, Exposition of the North. Takanobu Nagahashi(長橋 貴信) was in charge of setting up this exhibition. This event was supposed to recharge the Hokkaidō economy, but the event failed mainly because no one outside of Hokkaidō knew that the event was taking place, Some people who invested heavily in this event committed suicide as a result.

Gen Shiozuka(塩塚 玄) - Wakasugi's colleague who came with Wakasugi on the business trip from Hokkaidō. He was a former member of Japan's Self-Defense Forces.

Eiichi Wakasugi(若杉 栄一) - In this episode, he is a salesman of Hokkaidō products, back in Tokyo on a business trip. He used to work for a loan shark until the Tokumeigakari pair helped him leave that life behind. He now has a son Kaoruko(薫子) named after Sergeant Kaoru.

Takanobu Nagahashi(長橋 貴信) - Manager of Gureisu(グレイス), an advertising agency. He was forced to carry out the second robbery from Harbor Finance(みなとファイナンス Minato Fainansu) after he was fitted with a bomb. He had worked at the advertising agency for twenty years.

Yamaji(山路) - Nagahashi's subordinate. He later blows the whistle on his boss and his company and hands over evidence of Nagahashi's wrongdoings to Inspector Ukyō.

Takuji Tokumoto(徳本 卓爾) - President of Hokudō Development(北道開発 Hokudō Kaihatsu). He tried to visit Takanobu Nagahashi(長橋 貴信) when Nagahashi was hospitalized but drove away after seeing the Tokumeigakari pair.

Years ago, he used to manage an event hosting company called Hokkaidō Planning(北道企画Hokudō kikaku). After the Large Hokkaidō Exhibition, Exposition of the North had failed to generate much interest, that company became bankrupt.

At the end of the episode, he ends up in Ogikubo Park(荻窪公園 Ogikubokōen) with a bomb attached to to his body. The culprit tries to make him choose between jumping into the freezing water there and being blown up, knowing that he has a chronic disease of the heart.

Mio Usui(臼井 ミオ) - Eiichi used to collect money from her while he worked for the loan shark. She happened to be nearby when Eiichi was wearing the bomb-fitted vest, surrounded by the police. She currently works as a prostitute to repay her debts.

 Norio Kōda(幸田 紀夫), a highly-regarded piano tuner, murders the famous pianist Kōtarō Shiba(柴 耕太郎) at a recital hall in the middle of the night. He manages to sneak Shiba's body out of the recital hall and drop it off a cliff near the pianist's home unnoticed. Can the Tokumegakari pair look past the deception and catch the piano tuner? Why did Kōda kill Shiba?

The CSIs determine that he died from drowning. His lungs contained freshwater plankton. Oddly, at the time of his death, the mouth of the river was filled with saltwater from the sea due to high tide. It is also unlikely that his body floated from farther upstream since there were only two injuries to his body. Later, the police discover that he had been arrested before for possession of stimulants and also that he had a towel from the health spa where Sergeant Kaoru earlier apprehended a drug dealer.

Hisao Noda(野田 久雄) - He owed 3 million yen to Egawa. The Sōichi arrest him as the primary suspect in Egawa's murder. He claims that he planned to double the money by betting on a horse race before returning the money to Egawa, a plan which did not work out.

 Osamu Hasegawa(長谷川 修), a beat cop, is found shot to death near his police box. The Russian gun Tokarefu used to shoot Constable Hasegawa was found near his deceased body. No fingerprints were found on that gun although there was a piece of string attached to the gun's trigger. The constable apparently shot back, but missed the target, and the bullet became embedded in the ground nearby. The constable died shortly afterwards holding his own gun. Who shot Constable Hasegawa and why?

Osamu Hasegawa(長谷川 修) - The constable who was shot at close range and killed from the bullet that pierced his stomach. He first started working the Jōhoku Police Box(城北諸) in 1965, then went around working from various police boxes for 40 years as a policeman. He had worked with Sergeant Kaoru several times while the sergeant was still in the sōsaikka(捜査一課).

Teruhisa Sogō(十河 輝久) - Superintendent regional director(地域部長) of the police.

Kisaburō Abe(阿部 喜三郎) - The suspect for Contable Hasegawa's death was also responsible for Sergeant Kaoru's demotion to Tokumeigakari in the very first episode of the series. He was observed near the scene of the crime around the time Constable Hasegawa was shot. His rap sheet includes blackmail, causing injuries, and illegal possession of a gun. Constable Hasegawa apprehended Abe for blackmail some time ago. Three days ago, Constable Hasegawa stopped Abe to talk to him (shokushitsu), and Abe instinctively ran away. Oddly, he attended the constable's funeral. Later, he confesses that Constable Hasegawa was the only policeman who treated him properly when he was caught. He also tells the Tokumeigakari pair that he saw Constable Hasegawa again shortly after the constable was shot. Abe claims that he saw Constable Hasega shoot into the ground shortly after the constable was shot and the suspect had left.

Yukihiro Chabatake(茶畑 幸弘) - Hasegawa's boss who read a eulogy at Hasegawa's funeral.

Yasuo Ōkubo(大久保 康雄) - Miwako's boss who chastises her for using a plain picture in her article about Constable Hasegawa's death instead of a more heart-wrenching picture. He believes that the heart-wrenching picture will sell more copies of the newspaper

Kishi(岸) - A witness who saw Constable Hasegawa trying to help Mrs. Shirai after Abe had run away. According to him, Constable Hasegawa was repeatedly apologizing to Mrs. Unemo as she lay dying on the ground.

Rumi Shirai(白井留美) - Umeno Shirai's daughter-in-law. She received a letter from Constable Hasegawa apologizing to her family that it's his fault that Rumi's mother-in-law had died and that sending this letter along with most of his money were the only things he could do to apologize. Rumi reveals these facts to Miwako because she was the only one reporter to use a photograph of Constable Hasegawa wearing a standard policeman's uniform. Rumi believes that Miwako will write the truth about Constable Hasegawa.

Later, the killer calls Miwako again and declares that he or she will kill Kumiko Tanaka next. Who is committing these murderers, and why did the killer choose to reveal his or her last two targets to Miwako?

Hiromi Yamamoto(山本 弘己) - The second murder victim. He was a 33 year old company employee who lived in the Toshima Ward(豊島区) in Tokyo. The murderer called the police after the first victim was killed and gave them two days to stop this murder. The murderer slashed the tires on Hiromi's moped and killed him while he was walking back to his house.

Ai Satō(佐藤 愛) - The third target who survived the attack. She is a college student who attends a support group for murder victim's kins - her sister was killed by a stalker years ago. After she is nearly killed, she refuses to help at first, saying that everyone else should suffer the same way she and her sister did. Sergeant Kaoru convinces her to help the police by taking her to see the potential victims, including another pair of sisters in a similar situation.

Rie Satō(佐藤 梨絵) - Ai's sister who was killed by a stalker at the age of 23. She sought police protection but was declined, who treated her troubles as arguments between lovers.

Kumiko Tanaka(田中 久美子) - The fourth target. A girl with the same name as the real target came to the police station with her sister to seek help. The murderer calls Miwako from the public phone on West Main Street(西大通り) near the Takinogawa Housing Complex(滝野川団地) and tells her that he or she will kill Kumiko Tanaka the next day.

Akihisa Hori(堀 明久) - He is a clinical psychologist crime victim counselor(臨床心理士 犯罪被害者相談員). He leads a murder victim's kins' support group called "Room of the Heart(心の部屋)."

Eiichirō Tajima(田嶋 栄一郎) - He leads the special investigative team for the King Child Yokoku(Announced) Murder Case.

 Believing that someone has been stalking him for the past month, Yūji Komiyama(小見山 勇司) asks Sergeant Kaoru, who happened to be walking by, for help. Komiyama also reveals that he murdered Satoko Tsuboi(坪井 里子), a high school student, twenty years ago. Fearing for his life, Komiyama then asks the police for protection. The statute of limitations for Satko's murder had passed, but the police decide to question him and get a statement about the murder. Realizing that the police is more interested in having him make a public apology rather than protecting him, Komiyama leaves the police custody and returns to his apartment.

The police announce to the public that Riko's murderer has named him/herself, but without releasing Komiyama's name. Satoko's parents hear the news and visits the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department to find out who murdered their only daughter. They eventually end up in the Tokumeigakari office, where the Tokumeigakair pair tell Satoko's parents that the police can't reveal the killer's name by law. Frustrated by this situation, Sergeant Kaoru walks up to the family's house that night, but couldn't bring himself to go inside to reveal Komiyama's name to the family. The next day, Komiyama is found strangled to death, just as he had murdered Riko 20 years ago.

Because of Sergeant Kaoru's actions, he is under suspicion of releasing Komiyama's name to the Tsuboi family, and the Tsuboi family members are under the suspicion of murdering Komiyama.

Did Satoko's parents somehow find out Koimiyama's name and murder him to avenge their daughter's death?

Sadakazu Tsuboi(坪井 貞一) - Satoko's father. He and his wife repeatedly visit the Tokumeigakari office and plead to the pair to reveal who killed their daughter.

Sachiko Tsuboi(坪井 幸子) - Satoko's mother. She slit her wrists a week after Satoko was strangled, but was saved by a policeman who happened to be passing by. She passes out after hearing that Satoko's murderer had turned himself in while watching the news on the TV.

Satoko Tsuboi(坪井 里子) - The 17 year old high school girl living in Omokagebashi(面影橋) who was murdered 20 years ago. She had just been hired at the workplace of her choice.

Yūji Komiyama(小見山 勇司) - 40 year old man who had been living in constant fear for the past 20 years after killing Satoko, a high school student. He felt that someone was stalking him for the past month and turns himself in, thinking that the police might be able to keep him safe. Because the statue of limitations for the murder had passed, unless Komiyama agrees, the police can't release Komiyama's name or face to the public. Realizing that the police might not be sympathetic, he leaves the Tokyo Metropolitan Police building, only to turn up dead a day later in his apartment room in Shinjuku(新宿). The CSIs found two sets of fingerprints besides Komiyama's own fingerprints in the apartment.

Recently, he had been listening to classic music records at a loud volume in his apartment room.

Minato Isao(港 功) - He was one of the five hundred investigators who searched for Satoko's murderer twenty years ago. He is currently the homicide investigation clerk for the first investigative division(捜査一課強行犯二係) at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. While he was a beat cop, he found Sachiko Tsuboi(坪井 幸子) after she had tried to commit suicide while making a routine patrol. He then worked to become a detective in the department so that he could investigate this case.

Yasuo Ōkubo(大久保 康雄) - Miwako's boss who tells her to forget about Satoko's case since the police will not divulge any new information about the culprit.

Haruki Ōkōchi(大河内 春樹) - General Inspector Ōkōchi grills Sergeant Kaoru this episode to determine whether and when he visited the Tsuboi residence and whether the Sergeant revealed Komiyama's information to Satoko's parents. He tells the sergeant that he'll have to decide the sergeant's fate after three days. Later, he also investigates Clerk Minato Isao(港 功).

Takashi Suzuki(鈴木 隆) - Komiyama's 26 year old next door neighbor who is studying for the second part of the Bar Exam. He tells the Sōichi that he heard Komiyama arguing with an older man the night he was murdered and that the man he saw wasn't Sadakazu Tsuboi(坪井 貞一). He works part time at a video rental store.

Kōken Onoda(小野田 公顕) - The Superintendent Supervisor questions Inspector Ukyō's decision to repeatedly meet the Tsuboi couple so that he could apologize and decline their request. Later, he meets with Superintendent Uchimura and General Inspector Ōkōchi to discuss what to do with Sergeant Kaoru and Clerk Isao.

 Eiko Sawamura(沢村 映子) is a famous author of romance novels who has been mentioned as a potential future recipient of the prestigious Naoki Prize. One day, her husband is found dead after falling from the balcony at their home. He left a touching suicide note, and his death appears to be suicide, but Inspector Ukyō notices something troubling about his suicide note. Was Eiko's husband's death really a suicide? If he was killed, who murdered him and why?

Eiko Sawamura(沢村 瑛子) - Famous writer of romance novels. She won the Sirius New Author's Award(シリウス文芸新人賞) in 1995 for her short story Narrow Path of Youth(青春の小径 Seishun No Komichi) before her public debut. More recently, she released a novel titled A Goddess Is Smiling at the End of Love(愛の果てに女神が微笑む Ai No Hate Ni Megami Ga Hohoemu). Her husband recently committed suicide, mimicking events from that novel.

Takeo Mihara(三原 健夫) - Eiko fell in love with him at first sight and married him two years ago. After getting married, he replaced Ikue as her editor for his wife's next novel, The Third Woman(第三の女 Dai San No Onna). However, the book was critically panned as lacking literary polish. After this setback, Eiko went back and asked Ikue to edit her work again from her next novel.

Mihara fell to his death the day after Inspector Ukyō saw him at Eiko's autograph signing event. In his suicide note, he used the word "meet" and wrote it as deau (出逢う). Most people write deau as (出会う), but his famous wife intentionally writes deau as (出合う - "match") in all her novels except one - The Third Woman(第三の女 Dai San No Onna). In that novel, Eiko wrote deau as (出逢う), the same kanji used in Mihara's suicide note. Eiko also used (出逢う) in her award winning short story Narrow Path of Youth.

Ikue Hida(肥田 育恵) - Editor who works with Eiko, who calls her Ikuchan(育ちゃん). In reality, she ghostwrote all of Eiko's novels except The Third Woman. She was working part-time at at President Takagi's publishing company who Eiko applied to the company. Intrigued by her looks (but not her writing skills), President Takagi asked Ikue to work with Eiko to write their first novel. Ikue ended up writing most of their first collaborative work, and this established how these two women would work together to write future novels, which continues to this day.

Tsutomu Takagi(高木 勉) - Editor-in-chief and president of the company publishing Eiko's novels. He left a large publisher and started his on company nine years ago. President Takagi hired Eiko when she applied to the company after receiving the Sirius New Author's Award, more for her looks than her writing abilities. He then asked Ikue to work with Eiko and write a novel with her.
