Aibou TV Season 6 Episode 17 - The New ・ Tragicomedy of W(新・Wの悲喜劇)

Subtitle: The New ・ Tragicomedy of W(新・Wの悲喜劇)

Just as in the previous tragicomedy episode, one spouse of a couple who lives in Sergeant Kaoru's apartment wants to kill the other spouse. However, this time, it's the wife who wants to kill the husband. Also just as in the previous episode, people are coming to visit the Kameyama apartment. Miwako injured her foot while trying to frolic around, and Inspector Ukyō, Ms. Tamaki, and Superintendent Kakuta drops by to see how she is doing. This time, Ms. Tamaki brought her "Tamaki special" for Miwako and Sergeant Kaoru to enjoy.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Shiratori succeeds in killing her husband by throwing a large amount of dry ice into her husband's bath to knock him out, then boils him the bathtub causing severe burns. He passes away at the hospital a short time later. Inspector Ukyō and Sergeant Kaoru notice that the Shiratoris left their apartment unlocked after Mr. Shiratori was taken away to the hospital, and decides that, as responsible policemen, they will keep the Shiratori apartment safe by staying there while Mrs. Shiratori stays near her husband's side. Inside the apartment, the Tokumeigakari pair discovers several clues indicating that Mr. Shiratori's misfortune may not have been so accidental.

Notes

Heisei Shiokinin(平成仕置人) - The web site advertising murder for hire, The title makes a reference to the famous Japanese Hissatsu(Sure Death!) television series.

Sentoraru Terebi(セントラルテレビ) - Central TV station, the TV channel that was on at the start of the episode.

Characters appearing/mentioned in the story

Suzumi Shiratori(白鳥 寿々美) - Sergeant Kaoru's neighbor. Mrs. Shiratori lives right above the Kameyama household. During the day, she accepted a package delivery containing box of dry ice. The Tokumeigakari pair found a set of wet footprints leading from the bathtub to the front entrance, but none from the bathtub to the living room. Both the land line and the cellphone were in the living room. When questioned how she made the phone call, she changed her story several times before finally claiming that she called from the public phone located outside the apartment because 119 calls are free from a public phone.

She finds many of her husband's habits annoying: he pushes on the toothpaste from the middle of the tube instead of pushing from the end and he falls asleep with half of his eyes open.

Shinzō Shiratori(白鳥 晋三) - Sergeant Kaoru's neighbor, Mr. Shiratori worked with Sergeant Kaoru on the apartment's management association two years ago. He calls during the day to tell his wife that he forgot to take the keys to work that day.

He ignored his wife's requests to end their marriage. To save their marriage, he even stopped eating his favorite nattō because his wife didn't like it.

Aibou TV Season 6 Episode 16 - Proof of a Villainess(悪女の証明)

Subtitle: Proof of a Villainess(悪女の証明)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan is under scrutiny after rumors circulated that some of its members were misappropriating the ministry's funds. Kiyohide Fujitake(藤竹  清秀) and Hinako Katayama(片山 雛子) are the leaders pushing the Ministry to come clean and confess. In fact, at the Heisei Miraiha's thirteenth regular meeting, rumors circulated that Representative Fujitake was going to present a "big surprise," a new proof beyond any doubt that the ministry was inappropriately using its funds. During this meeting, the second chief of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in charge of eastern Asia Naruhiko Kusaba(草葉 成彦) falls to his death from a nearby building. Judging by the fingerprints found there, it appears almost certain that he was pushed to his death.

Trivia

We find out that Sergeant Kaoru was raised in Niigata Prefecture(新潟 Nīgata).

Locations

Īdabashi(飯田橋) - Location in Chiyoda district.

Īdabashi Nyū Purejidento Hoteru(飯田橋ニュープレジデントホテル) - Iidabashi New President Hotel, Heisei Miraiha is holding its thirteenth regular meeting on the thirteenth floor of this hotel, Inspector Ukyo realizes that it takes 7 min 22 sec to rush from the banquet room here (where the meeting was being held) to the roof of the Īdabashi Hainesu Biru(飯田橋イネスビル) using the emergency stairs. Representative Katayama reserved a room on the twelfth floor of this hotel for her own use. From the room window, the roof of the Īdabashi Hainesu Biru(飯田橋ハイネスビル) is visible.

Īdabashi Hainesu Biru(飯田橋ハイネスビル) - Building located close to the Īdabashi Nyū Purejidento Hoteru(飯田橋ニュープレジデントホテル). Naruhiko Kusaba(草葉 成彦) died after falling from the top of this building.

Niigata(新潟 Nīgata) - A prefecture in Japan, Sergeant Kaoru was raised here.

Teito Shinbunsha(帝都新聞社) - Teito Newspaper, The Tokumeigakari pair asks Terumoto(照本) questions about the backstory behind how the rumors about the misappropriation of funds at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs started.

Group

Heisei Mirai-ha(平成未来派) - Group concerned about and pushing for ecological reforms.

Characters appearing/mentioned in the story

Kiyohide Fujitake(藤竹  清秀) - Legislator and a member of the Kōmin (Political) Party(公民), the party currently out of power. He attends the thirteenth Heisei Mirai-ha meeting and while there, he chastises the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for misappropriating their funds. Rumors had gone around that he would present new shocking evidence supporting these charges. However, he ended up presenting only minor evidence showing any wrongdoing.

Hinako Katayama(片山 雛子) - Former Ministry of Foreign Affairs Parliamentary Secretary, and current Member of the House of Representatives of Japan. In the past when Representative Katayama served as the parliamentary secretary(大臣政務官 daijin seimu-kan), she and Yamamura had heated arguments over the direction the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should take. As a result of making bombshell statements about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she was removed from the position of parliamentary secretary at the next round of cabinet selection. It has been rumored that this was Yamaura's revenge.

During the Heisei Miraiha's thirteenth regular meeting, Representative Katayama first gave an introductory speech, then narrated through a twenty minute slide show after stepping down from the podium.

Chiyoko Chiyoda(千代田 千代子) - Pseudonym written on the package sent to the Tokumeigakari pair from Chiyoda district.

Yōichi Katayama(片山 擁一) - Representative Hinako's late father who for a longtime was the Minister of Foreign Affairs(外務大臣 Gaimu Daijin).

Kanji Yamaura(山浦 幹治) - Permanent Secretary(事務次官 jimujikan) of Foreign Affairs. He studied Chinese and attended the same university as Kusaba.  In the past, he argued bitterly with Hinako Katayama over the direction the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should take. According to him, the person who is spearheading the recent witch hunt to find evidence of the Ministry of Foreign Affair's misappropriation of funds is not Representative Fujitake, but Representative Katayama.

Michie Katō(加東 倫恵) - Reporter for Chūō Nippō Newspaper(中央日報 Chūōnippō) and Yamaura's secret lover. She attended the Heisei Miraiha's thirteenth regular meeting and left the meeting shortly before Representative Katayama started the slideshow. Later she (twice) interviewed Representative Katayama at her office.

Naruhiko Kusaba(草葉 成彦) - Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in charge of eastern Asia second chief(外務省 東アジア二課長 Gaimushō Higashi Ajia Ni Kachō). He studied Chinese, attended the same university as Yamaura.

The same day the Heisei Miraiha held its thirteenth meeting, he fell to his death at 3:20 PM. Someone heard him hit the ground and immediately called the police. Based on the fingerprints he left on the handrail and also because nothing indicated that Kusaba slipped, Inspector Ukyō deduces that Kusaba most likely was pushed to his death.

The security camera pointed in front of the building elevators didn't catch anyone suspicious, leading the police to suspect that the killer entered and exited the building using the emergency stairs. An odd-looking item, perhaps a broach or a hair clip, was discovered at the bottom of the stairs. Although a partial print was lifted from the item, it did not match any fingerprints in the system. Eventually, the police match Representative Katayama's fingerprints to the partial print.

Īdabashi Hainesu Biru(飯田橋イネスビル) is not located anywhere near businesses related to Ministry of the Foreign Affairs, making it odd that Kusaba would be there in the first place. The Sōichi could not find anyone who held grudges against him.

Terumoto(照本) - Journalist for Teito Newspaper. He tells the Tokumeigakari pair that he thinks it odd that Representative Fujitake had access to so much material from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The representative does not have any connections to anyone in the Ministry. Teromoto suspects a whistle blower within the Ministry decided to contact Representative Fujitake, someone like Kusaba.

Okada(岡田) - Representative Katayama's secretary.

Keisuke Shikatebukuro(鹿手袋 啓介) - We only hear his voice at the end of the episode. He secretly gathered evidence and took pictures for Representative Katayama.

Aibou TV Season 6 Episode 15 - Revenge from the 20th Century(20世紀からの復讐)

Subtitle: Revenge from the 20th Century(20世紀からの復讐)

Someone remotely sets off two box bombs, the first bomb at an intersection at 11:00 PM and the second bomb at a vacant lot at 6:30 AM. Miwako receives a package at 6:30 PM inside a similar box, which turns out to be personal T shirts featuring pictures of both Miwako and Sergeant Kaoru. The serial bomber next leaves a bomb in a convenience store. Once again, the bomb is remotely controlled but this time, the bomber is giving orders through Kazuhiko Satō(佐藤 和彦), a store employee. Sergeant Kaoru happened to be using the restroom when this happens and is taken hostage along with two other customers by Kazuhiko whois following the bomber's instructions given through the phone. The task of carrying out the negotiation is given to none other than Sergeant Itami, Sergeant Kaoru's eternal rival. Inspector Ukyō also arrives a short time later to help out. Can Sergeant Itami and Inspector Ukyō safely end this hostage situation?

Locations

Moga Mart(もがマート) - Moga Mart, the convenience store where the hostage situation takes place.

Okikubo(荻窪) - Outlying area of Tokyo in Suginami Ward, the first known location of the cellphone's signal.

Haneda(羽田) - Haneda Airport, Midori Satō(佐藤 美登里) was here getting ready to go back to her parent's home when she heard about the events transpiring at Moga Mart.

22:40Suidōhashi(水道大橋) - The third bomb, which was placed near a motorcycle, exploded here.

Kichijōji(吉祥寺) - Kichijōji, a neighborhood in the city of Musashino in Tokyo. The bomber's cellphone transmission was last broadcast from here before the signal went dead.

Tatsumi(辰巳) - A district in Kōtō Special Ward in Toyko, the location where the first bomb exploded.

Nippori(日暮里) - A city that used to exist in Tokyo, the location where the second bomb exploded.

Characters appearing/mentioned in the story

Kazuhiko Satō(佐藤 和彦) - Moga Mart convenience store employee who brandishes a knife to take three hostages including Sergeant Kaoru after declaring that there is a bomb in the store. He says that there was a note left on the store counter, and on it, someone had written instructions to immediately call the phone number written on that note. Since then, he had been following the bomber's instructions. The bomber hadn't made any demands, monetary or otherwise.

Inspector Ukyo thinks this it odd that this last case varies greatly from the other two bombing cases. The other two bombs were detonated away from people at times when people were not likely to be around. The suspect didn't contact anyone after the last two explosions.

The bomber must stay within a 1 km radius to remotely detonate the bomb, and he or she could be tracked down if he or she continuously stays on the phone. It turns out that the bomber is calling from a cellphone from the Okikubo area.

Midori Satō(佐藤 美登里) - Kazuhiko's wife. She got into a fight with Kazuhiko and as a result went to Haneda airport to fly back to her jikka(実家 her birth family's home). While waiting for her flight, one of her friends called and told her about the situation at Moga Mart. She then made her way from the airport to the van Sōichi was using as negotiation headquarters. A short time later, Kazuhiko calls, saying that he made a deal with the bomber to release the hostages.

Yukio Sakazaki(坂崎 由紀雄) - The true bomber. He calls Sergeant Kameyama's cellphone right after two hostages are released. Because the Sergeant is still tied up, Kazuhiko picks instead. Sakazuki tells Kazuhiko that he is the real bomber and orders Sakazuki to keep Sergeant Kameyama hostage. Sakazaki then orders Kazuhiko to ask the sergeant if he figured out who the bomber is and that he already gave two hints. When the Sergeant replies that he doesn't know, Sakazaki gives another hint by setting off a third bomb, this time attached to a motorcycle at Suidou Oohashi. He threatens to set off another bomb, this time with casualties, if Sergeant Kaoru can't remember who he is. Hearing all this, Inspector Ukyō deduces that the bomber must be referring to a case Sergeant Kaoru handled before he was transferred to Tokumeigakari, because the inspector can't recall any case from those three locations.

The motorcycle he blew up was model VX400 produced by Towa Motors(十和モーターズ Tōwa Mōtāzu) in 2000.

He ran an Internet business making T-shirts using pictures sent by the purchaser. Tired of misfortunes in his life, he had considered blowing himself up and had gathered the necessary parts to do so, but he changed his mind after receiving one particular order...

Yoshioka(吉岡) - Member of the special investigative team.

Aibou TV Season 6 Episode 14 - Amber-Colored Murder(琥珀色の殺人)

Subtitle: Amber-Colored Murder(琥珀色の殺人)

Makoto Katsuya(勝谷 誠), a famous whiskey critic with a sharp tongue is murdered in his home, located in a rural area. His reviews were so scathing that his articles caused some bars to go out of business. Though the Tokumeigakari pair aren't at the scene of the crime, they later visit CSI Yonezawa to look through the evidence. Inspector Ukyō examines a crime scene photograph and realizes that something is amiss.

Characters appearing/mentioned in the story

Rintarō Miyoshi(三好 倫太郎) - He was the bartender for Remembrance (season 1 episode 7). While Miyoshi was in prison, Michiaki Hanabusa(英 道明) wrote a letter to Miyoshi asking him to work at a Cask location once he got out of prison. A short while ago, he was released early for good behavior and started bartending at Cigar Cask #3.

At the start of the episode, he cleans up the crime scene. He switched the Old Edward brand of whiskey(famous blended scotch) for the Pairtiche (1970) bottle. He also wiped off fingerprints from one of the bottles in the room. He is not familiar with cigars and so did not clean up the cigar Katsuya was smoking at the time of his death.

After realizing that Miyoshi is the bartender at Cigar Cask #3, they visit his bar to question him about the crime scene photograph. During the visit, Miyoshi offers one of the many old bottles at the bar, the Ardspey bottle to the Tokumeigakari pair. Later when the Tokumeigakari pair question him about the night Katsuya was killed, Miyoshi claims that he was tending to his bar until midnight. It takes an hour to go to Katsuya's residence and come back by car.

He uses nitrogen to treat the wine so that they will always taste fresh, almost as if the bottle were just opened.

Michiaki Hanabusa(英 道明) - Owner and proprietor of the three Cigar Cask bar locations, He is the bartender at the original Cigar Cask location in Ginza, which offers (mostly Cuban) cigars in addition to alcoholic beverages, mostly more recent vintages because this location is a cigar bar. He doesn't use nitrogen to treat the wine at his location because most of them are recent and because fermented wine goes well with cigar smoking customers (and nitrogen slows down the fermentation process).

He was a customer at Rintarō Miyoshi(三好 倫太郎)'s bar Remembrance years ago.

Surprisingly, Katsuya was a regular customer at the original Cigar Cask location. Katsuya bought and smoked cigars at the store because he liked high quality cigars, and carrying them around dries the cigars out.

Eiko Fujii(藤井 詠子) - Former bartender of Cigar Cask #2. Her bar closed as a result of Katsuya's criticism. Katsuya was not happy that Fujii offered Red Cow as a high quality drink to a pair of regular customers,an elderly couple. However, the brewers of Red Cow had changed its ingredients over the years to those of lower quality, and Katsuya believed that in this case, Fujii should have offered another drink of a better quality at the same price.

After her store went out of business a week ago, she spent last week going from bar to bar and drinking around. She has not gone home since her store closed. She keeps on saying that she wants to drink Miyoshi's cocktail, specifically mentioning "Home Sweet Home."

Her store closed shortly after Miyoshi came out from prison.

Makoto Katsuya(勝谷 誠) - A harsh but knowledgeable whiskey critic. He is divorced and doesn't have any children. His former wife lives in Los Angeles and refused to claim his body.

While drinking whiskey and smoking a cigar between 11 PM and 1 AM, this whiskey critic was killed after being hit on the head with his own whiskey encyclopedia, which fractured his cervical(neck) vertebrae.  His maid later discovered his body.

Looking at the crime scene photograph showing the last glass of whiskey Katsuya drank, Inspector Ukyō noticed that the whiskey (around 400000 yen in value) and water had formed separate layers. This indicated that Katsuya poured ice into his glass with his whiskey. However, whiskey connoisseurs almost never do this because the ice causes the pleasant aroma from the whiskey to evaporate away.

Only one bottle from the room, a bottle of Old Edward, did not have any fingerprints on it. Old Edward is a brand of blended scotch whisky, which can be enjoyed with ice.

Later Sergeant Kaoru learns from Miwako that Chino Magazine called and asked her to write a replacement article for one that Katsuya was supposed to write for them. Katsuya told the magazine's editor that he was writing an article to call out a bartender who doesn't have the right to bartend because that individual had killed a bar's owner. The editors never received a copy of that article.

While questioning Okita at his workplace, Sergeant Itami noticed that Okita was holding a blue checkered muffler.

Hiroko couldn't tell whether it was Okita he ran into the night Kōji Fukumitsu(福光 公次) was murdered. Okita claims that he was at his home three of the four nights the victims were murdered. Aibou TV Season 6 Episode 12 - The Targeted Woman(狙われた女)

Subtitle: The Targeted Woman(狙われた女)

It looks like the real purpose of this jail breakout was to capture Tsukimoto Sachiko(月本 幸子). After making his grand entrance in a wheelchair, Shigeru Mukōjima(向島 茂) seems to take pleasure in getting his revenge as he points his gun at Sachiko. The Tokumeigakari race to find the two inmates before the real mastermind behind this breakout kills the key witness.

Characters appearing/mentioned in the story

Tsukimoto Sachiko(月本 幸子) - 34 years old prisoner at Aoume Women's Prison(青梅女子刑務所 Aoume Joshi Keimusho), number 90. She was Shigeru Mukōjima(向島 茂)'s former lover who was forced to participate in Shunrei's jailbreak.

Shunrei Yoshii(吉井 春麗) - 25 year old inmate at the Oume Women's Prison(青梅女子刑務所) incarcerated for a death during robbery, prisoner number 303. After she finds out that it was Mukōjima's gang who orchestrated their escape, she notices Iijima(飯島) and Oka(岡) waiting outside the Jōdai Financial(城大金融) hideout. She goes back into the hideout, hits Tamura with a chair, grabs his gun, then forces him to lead her to Sachiko. Once there, they end up fighting for the gun, and Sachiko ends up with it. Sachiko uses the gun to escape from the building, avoiding the police detectives waiting outside the front entrance. On the way out, she calls the police to report the location of Jōdai Financial(城大金融)'s hideout to the police.

Ishida(石田) - Akigawa Station (秋川署) Chief (commissioner).

Iijima(飯島) - Detective at Akigawa Station (秋川署). He was waiting outside the Jōdai Financial(城大金融)'s hideout for Shunrei Yoshii(吉井 春麗) to come out even before Shunrei called the police to report its location. He then pretended to have just arrived there to the Sōichi and other police members who swarmed the hideout shortly after Shunrei made the call.

He used the pseudonym "god" when dealing with the Jōdai Financial(城大金融) members and Misa Tozaki(戸崎 美佐).

Oka(岡) - Policeman at Akigawa Station (秋川署).

Shigeru Mukōjima(向島 茂) - A former big shot gang member severely injured when Sachiko shot him a year and a half ago. As a result, he is now confined to a wheelchair.

After he is apprehended, he confesses that he found fifty million yen(五千万円 go sen man en) in cash left outside his door. Someone using the pseudonym "god" called him and told him that he was being given a chance to take revenge on Sachiko. Mukōjima and the surviving members of Jōdai Financial(城大金融) were instructed to kidnap the two women. They were free to do whatever they wanted with Sachiko and throw the other prisoner out the hideout's front door. Mukōjima listened to the instructions of this mysterious caller because Jōdai Financial(城大金融) was done for. He didn't really care any more, and he thought it might be "fun" to go along with this "god's" plans.

Misa Tozaki(戸崎 美佐) - Female prison officer who was taken hostage. She later confesses that she was the insider who worked for this mysterious "god" after receiving ten million yen(一千万円 issenman en)." She only talked to "god" through the phone.

Hideaki Tamura(田村 秀明) - Mukōjima's henchman who recorded Detective Iijima(飯島) and Oka take Sachiko and Shunrei to an abandoned building, then threatening to shoot them. After he threatened the detectives that he was going to expose them unless they paid him fifty million yen(五千万円 go sen man en), Detective Iijima(飯島) responded by shooting Tamura. Tamura, however, survived.

Kubo(久保) - Rode a white motorcycle and attacked the wagon carrying the prisoners.

Takao Ichikawa(市川 孝雄) - Rode a white motorcycle and attacked the wagon carrying the prisoners. He was a member of the Ginyū Group(銀有会).

Kanako Umezawa(梅沢 加奈子) - Shunrei Yoshii(吉井 春麗)'s friend who died from drug overdose.

Takeo Murakoshi(村越 武夫) - Non-executive director at Seanet(シーネット Shīnetto) 46 years of age. He was Kanako Umezawa(梅沢 加奈子)'s boyfriend who fell to his death from a footbridge. His death was suspicious, but it ruled an accident.

Akemi(明美) - Lieutenant Miura asked her to find out the patrol car number of the police unit that was driving around the Hanedaoki area shortly before the police raided Jōdai Financial(城大金融)'s hideout.

Haruki Ōkōchi(大河内 春樹) - General Inspector Ōkōchi took over the investigation looking into the suspicious deaths of Kanako Umezawa(梅沢 加奈子) and Takeo Murakoshi(村越 武夫) and the widespread drug use at the Internet company Seanet(シーネット Shīnetto). He doesn't have enough evidence to release the names of the policemen involved, so he relinquishes the rights to the investigation to Superintendent Kakuta who promptly obtains a warrant to search Seanet(シーネット Shīnetto) for evidence.
