Aibou TV Season 8 Episode 7 - The Chicken and the Butcher's Knife(鶏と牛刀)
Subtitle: The Chicken and the Butcher's Knife(鶏と牛刀)
The Social Pension Office begs Superintendent Supervisor Onoda to delay arresting Masaki Fuji'ishi(藤石 正輝), the chief clerk of the collection division at Shinjuku's Second Social Pension Office for stealing pension funds. The superintendent supervisor agrees, and the social pension office employees rush to recover something called the FA file. Before Fuji'ishi is arrested, he falls to his death from a window at Shinjuku East Hotel. Though Assistant Commissioner Nakazono is anxious to rule Fuji'ishi's death suicide, CSI Yonezawa finds a glass shard stuck in the deceased's suit's collar. Masaki Fuji'ishi(藤石 正輝) - 35 year old chief clerk of the collection division(徴収課係長) at Shinjuku's Second Social Pension Office. He lives in Hyakuninchō in Shinjikuku. The Sōni investigated him because they found out an account in his name (opened two years ago) collecting pension funds from ten deceased people.
On the day he died, he took time off to deal with an urgent business. That day, he met his girlfriend at the Shinjuku East Hotel. Even though it wasn't her birthday, he gave her a gift, and out of the blue, he told her that he was going to quit his job. They got into an argument. She threw the heavy gift back at him and stormed out out of the hotel.
Shortly afterwards (between 9:30 and 11:30 PM), he fell to his death from a hotel window. The window opened just part way to prevent people from falling out, so he apparently removed and dropped the window just before jumping out himself. CSI Yonezawa found bloody fingerprints on the window frame. Both the blood and the fingerprints belonged to Fuji'ishi.
Though at first glance, it appeared that Fuji'ishi had committed suicide, but CSI Yonezawa found a glass shard in his business suit collar that was different from the window glass. Later, CSI Yonezawa finds a trace amount of rose petals stuck to his clothes.
Ayumi Kurita(栗田 亜由美) - Fuji'ishi's girlfriend three months pregnant with his child. On the day Fuji'ishi died, she met him at the Shinjuku East Hotel. Fuji'ishi gave her a present then told her that he is going to quit his job. This resulted in them arguing, and she threw his gift, her favorite flower roses in a heavy vase, back at him shortly before leaving the hotel. After she found out that Fuji'ishi had died, she stormed into Shinjuku second social pension office and accused his coworkers of killing him.
Makoto? Shibata(柴田 真) - Manager at the Shinjuku second social pension office.
Ikuo Suzuki(鈴木 郁夫) - Fuji'ishi's coworker. He came into the room while the Tokumeigakari pair were talking to Shibata and Takimi to say that they can't contact Fuji'ishi.
Sakiko Takimi(滝美 穂子) - Fuji'ishi's coworker.
Tamotsu Masuzawa(増沢 保) - Bureaucrat working for the Ministry of Health and Welfare. He is one of the three bureaucrats who pleaded with Superintendent Supervisor Onoda to delay Fuji'ishi's arrest. He is sitting on the right side of the sofa at the start of the episode. (He doesn't wear glasses.)
Manato? Washinaga(鷲永 学人) - Bureaucrat working for the Ministry of Health and Welfare. He is one of the three bureaucrats who pleaded with Superintendent Supervisor Onoda to delay Fuji'ishi's arrest. Superintendent Kakuta and his anti-organized crime division arrest Rokuhara for not paying pension premiums for non-existent employees in his dummy corporations. He had illegally applied to the Shinjuku Second Social Pension Office saying that these corporations had shut down to get out of making these payments.
His fingerprints were found on a glass shard taken from Fuji'ishi's body. The hotel's security camera captured him walking out of a hotel elevator around the time Fuji'ishi fell to his death. Rokuhara wasn't staying at the hotel so he didn't have any reason to be there at the hotel.
Yoshio? Tachibana(橘 義郎) - Member of the sōni who was investigating Fuji'ishi, Fuji'ishi had his business card when Fuji'ishi died. He told the Tokumeigakari pair that the sōni investigated Fuji'ishi because they suspected that he was pocketing pension funds being paid to deceased people. They were getting ready to arrest Fuji'ishi when they were ordered to delay making the arrest.
Shinji Mizuki(水木 信二) - Member of the sōni.
Kōken Onoda(小野田 公顕) - Superintendent Supervisor Onoda agrees the request made by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and delays Fuji'ishi's arrest. Fuji'ishi dies during that delay. He also meets Inspector Ukyō at a restaurant to confirm that the Ministry of Health and Welfare asked him to delay Fuji'ishi's arrest. Aibou TV Season 8 Episode 6 - At the Fenced City(フェンスの町で)
Subtitle: At the Fenced City(フェンスの町で)
A masked man robs a post office with striking efficiency. (Note: In Japan, post offices also act like banks.) Though the police almost immediately sealed surrounding roads with checkpoints, they could not catch the culprit. The video surveillance footage captured the thief moving expertly throughout the ordeal. The Trio the Sōichi suspect a US military personnel from a nearby military base housing personnel in charge of planning, communication, and delivery while Lieutenant Kanbe suspects that this was a professional hit carried out by a seasoned bank robber. After noticing the thief make several critical mistakes, Inspector Ukyō instead suspects someone younger who doesn't have much money but has received some kind of combat training. Superintendent Uchimura orders Trio the Sōichi not to consider suspects from the base, and if someone suspicious from the base turns up, to report to him instead of making an arrest.
In order to track down the young culprit, the Tokuemeigakari pair first get hold of the members' list of amateur military circles operating in the area. Visiting the home of Kōhei Tsuchimoto(土本 公平), a junior high school student, the inspector notices that Kōhei's bicycles tires match the tire marks found near the scene of the crime. They visit the school he attends, but just before they have a chance to talk to him, the Sōichi arrest and take him away: his mother had turned him in after she found a stash of money inside his closet.
Kōhei is unfazed and confesses to the robbery. However, he keeps on changing his story. He first says that he stole the money because he run away and start a new life. Inspector Ukyō then finds chemical equations for a bomb written in his textbook, and CSI Yonezawa finds a list of ingredients necessary for making a bomb and a timer in a deleted computer file. Based on this, the Tokumeigakari pair find the hardware store next to the nation highway where the store's security camera recorded Kōhei purchasing supplies for making a bomb and a detonator, but oddly enough not a timing device. Kōhei then says that he wanted to blow up his classroom before running away. He didn't mention this earlier not wanting more charges pressed against him. He then reveals that he hid the bomb under the Friendship Bridge(ふれあい橋Fureaibashi) in Nishimachi(西町).
The police find the bomb, but it does not have a timer attached to it, nor could it have been detonated from a distance. This is odd because attaching the timer is a fairly simple task. When questioned about this, Kōhei says that he had trouble attaching the timer, but Inspector Ukyo reveals to Kōhei that he know attaching the timer isn't a difficult process. Kōhei changes his story once again to say that he actually wanted to use the money he stole to buy supplies for even more bombs so that he could blow up the entire school. Instead of running away, he was prepared died during the bombing. When Lieutenant Kanbe then asks why Kōhei didn't mention this from the start, Kōhei claims that he didn't want to give a bad impression. The inspector thinks this is odd - why would someone who is willing to die care about the impression he gives in the interrogation room?. What was Kōhei really planning? What caused this young man to plan on carrying out such drastic measures?

Aibou TV Season 8 Episode 5 - A Fruitless Betrayal(背信の徒花)
Subtitle: A Fruitless Betrayal(背信の徒花)
CSI Yonezawa is a railroad mania (among many other things), and he is enjoying his lunch while watching a DVD recording of the scenery taken from the window of a train running along the Tōkaichi Line(十日市線 Tōkaichisen) when the Tokumeigakari pair drop by. Never to miss any details, Inspector Ukyō notices Akira Mishima(三島 章), a bureaucrat who worked for the Ministry of Land ans Construction, standing on the platform of Mamiya Station(間宮駅 Mamiya Eki). Mishima committed suicide 5 years ago, some time between the day he was recorded on this DVD and the morning afterwards. This was unexpected, since Mishima worked in the ministry building in Tokyo all day on 9/16, and Mamiya Station(間宮駅) is located sixty km away from Tokyo.
Superintendent Uchimura is not happy with the Tokumeigakari pair investigating this old case. Five years ago, members of sōni investigated Mishima for possibly colluding with constructing companies to rig construction bids. Some time after they started the investigation, Mishima's body was found. Those within the Keishichō worried that the public would blame them for making Mishima commit suicide. The superintendent wants to make sure that the public is not reminded of Keishichō's possible link to Mishima's death. Did Mishima really stay in the ministry building that day? What was he doing at a train station far away from Tokyo shortly before he died? Was he really colluding with construction companies?
Locations
Mamiya Eki(間宮駅) - Mamiya Station, a station located in Mamiya Village(間宮村) along the Tōkaichi Line(十日市線 Tōkaichisen). On this line, a single car train goes back and forth along a single rail, and the round trip takes about two hours. Akira Mishima(三島 章) was recorded standing on the platform of this station the day before his body was discovered.
Shin Nishitama Bashi(新西多摩端) - New Nishitama Bridge, Mishima was in charge of this bridge.
Nirayama Bashi(韮山端) - Nirayama Bridge, Mishima was in charge of this bridge.
Dai Ni Sekitani Rikkyō(第二席谷陸橋) - Second Sekitani Overpass, Mishima was in charge of this bridge.
Dai Ni Kan'etsu(第二関越) - Second Expressway, a highway planned for construction, Shin Nishitama Bashi(新西多摩端) connects to this highway, and this highway passes close to the Mamiya Station. Some people are questioning whether this highway is even necessary.
Keiyōen(敬葉園) - Nursing home located near the Mamiya Station.
Characters/Company appearing/mentioned in the story
Akira Mishima(三島 章) - Bureaucrat who worked for the Ministry of Land and Construction(国土建設省), He was in charge of bridges including the New Nishitama Bridge(新西多摩端 Shin Nishitama Bashi), the Nirayama Bridge(韮山端 Nirayama Bashi), and the Second Sekitani Overpass(第二席谷陸橋 Dai Ni Sekitani Rikkyō).
He supposedly committed suicide by jumping from the top of a tall building in Tokyo on 9/17 five years ago after mysteriously vanishing from a conference room at the ministry the previous day. Though he had mysterious scratches on his body and his work badge was missing, the police ultimately declared that his committed suicide because his shoes were left neatly on top of the building and they could not find evidence of murder. Because the building he jumped from is located only 700 meters away from the ministry building, the investigators at the time assumed that he walked straight from the ministry to this building before committing suicide.
Wataru Katakura(片倉 渉) - Bureaucrat who works for the Ministry of Land and Construction(国土建設省). He joined the ministry around the same time as Mishima. He is currently in charge of highways including the Second Expressway(第二関越 Dai Ni Kan'etsu) which is about to begin construction.
He first claims that he did not visit Mamiya Village(間宮村) on 9/16 nor did he see Mishima that day. However, Inspector Ukyō discovers evidence showing both claims to be lies. Katakura did go to Mamiya Station and met Mishima at the station that day.
Kōhei Sawamura(沢村 公平) - Bureaucrat who works for the Ministry of Land and Construction(国土建設省). He was Mishima's direct subordinate,
Sawamura shows the Tokumeigakari pair the conference room where Mishima worked the day before Mishima fell from the nearby building. Sawamura says that on that day, Mishima entered the room around 11 AM to work on documents he needed to prepare in a short period of time. When Sawamura entered the conference room again around 6 PM, Mishima had vanished from the room. The ministry's security cameras didn't record Mishima leaving the room or the ministry either.
When asked why Mishima might have committed suicide, Sawamura answers that Mishima was too straightforward. Mishima didn't get along with his bosses and they had been slow to promote him. Compared to that, Katakura, who started working in the ministry around the same time, had just been promoted to assistant manager.
Masaru Etō(江藤 大) - Head of the nursing home Keiyōen(敬葉園). He tells the Tokumeigakari pair that though he had worked to fight the eviction, he is forced to let go of the land because the Second Expressway(第二関越 Dai Ni Kan'etsu) will be passing through the property. He says that he feels sorry for the residents because most of the elderly residents there are people who had been abandoned by their family members.
At first, he says that he's never seen Mishima before and that he had only negotiated with Katakura from the Ministry of Land and Construction. He later confesses that Mishima had dropped by the nursing home several times to secretly help the nursing home's fight to stay there. He asked Etō to continue resisting, and he would find a way to halt the forced eviction somehow.
Kyōko Yoshida(吉田 京子) - A staff member working at the nursing home Keiyōen(敬葉園). She says that they've been planting a tree outside every time new residents moved in to the facility as a way of telling hi that this was their home.
Shizu Morimura(森村 シズ) - A resident of the nursing home Keiyōen(敬葉園), She keeps on watering a plant that never blooms for some reason. She says that her son brought her the plant, even though she calls just about everyone who visits the nursing home her son.
Later she tried to commit suicide by hanging herself because the nursing home was going to be shut down, and they could not find her a new home. Inspector Ukyō discovers that Mishima brought the plant she had been watering to the nursing home the day he vanished.
Takei Kensetsu(岳井建設) - Takei Construction, the company that will build the Second Expressway(第二関越 Dai Ni Kan'etsu).

After Tatsuko's letter appeared in the magazine, Miss Green visited Tatsuko to ask about the music box with the lily of the valley on its outer cover that plays Pachelbel's Canon.
Inspector Ukyo thought it odd that one, Miss Green never asked why they interviewed her, and two, she left the bulbs of orange ballerina tulips in her box without moving them to a safe storage location for five days because she takes such a good care of her garden.
Because of these concerns, the inspector gets Lieutenant Kanbe to keep an eye on Miss Green. She promptly catches the lieutenant trying to spy on her and gets him to help her take care of her English garden. Later, Lieutenant Kanbe discovers a bent bloody walking stick hidden in her shoe rack.

She apparently dropped her bag in the pond at the park and had tried to retrieve it. She fell into the pond and pass away after suffering a heart attack shortly afterwards. A witness to this incident said that he didn't see anyone in the vicinity at the time. Inspector Ukyō noticed that the strap on her bag was 120 cm long. Since Aoi was 155 cm tall, she must have worn the bag across her shoulders. Worn that way, her bag shouldn't have slid off into the pond.
Tatsuko Sasaki(佐々木 たつ子) - She first talked to Lieutenant Miura then called the Tokumeigakari office to report that she had information relevant to Nomura's death. In a letter published in a magazine, she wrote that she saw a music box with a lily of the valley decoration on Nomura's veranda. Aibou TV Season 8 Episode 2 - Farewell to Birdland(さよなら、バードランド)
Subtitle: Farewell to Birdland(さよなら、バードランド)
Inspector Ukyō and Lieutenant Kanbe return a Taishō era Fukuske doll that the police needed in a now-closed case back to its owner, but miss the last return bus for the day after losing their way. Reluctantly, they decide to stay nearby for the night. They end up ordering beef stew at a nearby restaurant where they see Kazuki Aoyagi(青柳 和樹) also enjoying his dinner at a nearby table. Once they finish their dinners, they head to an inn where they discover Trio the Sōichi and the other Keishichō officers investigating Tetsuo Hirota(広田 哲夫)'s murder. Hirota was a managing director of a trading company who recently decided to stop funding Aoyagi's Jazz magazine Birdland. Though Aoyagi has a motive for killing Hirota, the Tokuemeigakari pair saw Aoyagi eating dinner when Hirota was murdered. Who killed HIrota and why?
Locations
Shirayama Tenbōdai(白山展望台) - Aoyagi tells his friends that he is calling from the parking lot here at the start of the episode.
Characters appearing/mentioned in the story
The college jazz band mentioned in the story had five members: Kazuki Aoyagi(青柳 和樹), Yoshihiko Kuroki(黒木 芳彦), Rie Kuroki(黒木 梨絵), Sōichirō Uno(宇野 宗一郎), and Masao Watanabe(渡辺 政雄). Kuroki married Rie and the four guys meet every 3 years, even 20 years after they graduated from college. The band always played the song "You Are My Everything" at the end of their performances. That was Rie's favorite song and the song recorded on the cassette tape found in Aoyagai's villa's wine cellar.
Kazuki Aoyagi(青柳 和樹) - He was one of the jazz band members and played the saxophone in the band. He was the cleverest of the four, but now struggles to sell a self-published jazz magazine called Birdland. In fact, Tetsuo Hirota(広田 哲夫) of Eimei Bussan(英明物産) decided to stop funding the magazine before Hirota was killed.
He is the only member of the reunion to get to the inn separately. The other three members took Kuroki's car to get to the inn. He was eating dinner at the restaurant Walnut between 5:30 and 6:00 PM. The Tokumeigakari pair got to the restaurant around 5:45 and sawo Aoyaki eating in the establishment. He says that he ate dinner at the restaurant knowing that dinner would be served at the reunion because he was initially ambivalent about attending because he was losing funding for his magazine but changed his mind while eating dinner and ended up driving to the inn.
Later, when they discover Kuroki's body, Aoyagi comes in to the villa a short time after Uno and Watanabe. He was wearing driving gloves.
Yoshihiko Kuroki(黒木 芳彦) - He was one of the jazz band members and played the trumpet in the band. He is the only member who wears glasses.
Now, he is the president of his own company, Office Kuroki who plans CMs. He married Rie Kuroki(黒木 梨絵), the pianist in the band, and is the only former band member to marry. He is known to be a ladies' man, and he supposedly is carrying on an affair with a younger woman.
After arriving at the inn, Kuroki supposedly drank wine and stayed in the room before all the commotion started, He claims that he heard chirping crickets when Aoyagi called,
He plans to build an apartment in the city. Construction is scheduled to start at the beginning of next year. He used the land as a collateral to borrow money from the bank. The land and building are in his wife's name. He plans to live in one of the rooms in the apartment, but did not include plans to soundproof the room even though his wife plays the piano.
Kuroki also owns a villa near an inn. He dies there after falling down the stairs leading to the wine cellar. Someone cut the wires carrying electricity into the villa, and power was out inside the villa. Young people often loiter around the area, and his villa's electrical wires had been cut before. After his death, police discover a pair of bloody gloves among his belongings.
Rie Kuroki(黒木 梨絵), nee Yamazaki(山崎) - She was one of the jazz band members and played the piano in the band. She was Watanabe's girlfriend during college, but she is now married to Yoshihiko Kuroki(黒木 芳彦). She comes from a wealthy family and owns the land and the apartment that will be built on the land.
She was in Akita Prefecture visiting her aunt during the entire reunion, including when her husband died. She last saw her husband the morning he left for the reunion. She received the plane ticket for Akita Prefecture and a typed letter addressed from her husband encouraging her to go have some fun. Her husband had surprised her in a similar way sending tickets to plays in the past.
Sōichirō Uno(宇野 宗一郎) - He was one of the jazz band members and played the bass in the band.
He is now an associate professor at Tōto University(東都大) specializing in American folk songs, He has published numerous books and is about to be appointed professor. However, the first book that brought him fame was in fact a collaborative work between him and Aoyagi, at least according to Watanabe. Uno later claims that most of what's in that book is his own original work, however.
After arriving at the inn, he took a dip in the hot springs, then walked around until he heard the sirens. The Tokumeigakari pair question him at the bar in the inn.
Masao Watanabe(渡辺 政雄) - He was one of the jazz band members and played the drums in the band.
He now works in sales at Kudan Commercial Business(九段商事 Kudan Shōji). Ten years ago, his father lost a lot of money in futures trading. Aoyagi loaned Watanabe the money to cover the debt, and Watanabe has considered Aoyagi as a life-saver since then.
Watanabe went on a walk after arriving at the inn, Lieutenant Kanbe questions him in the hot springs.
Tetsuo Hirota(広田 哲夫) - New managing director of Eimei Bussan(英明物産). For some reason, he is staying at the same inn as the reunion. Hirota decided to stop funding Aoyagi's magazine Birdland and Aoyagi's small publishing company. He was last seen alive at 5:30PM when the maid brought the dinner wine. His bludgeoned body was discovered at 6:00PM.

Aibou TV Season 8 Episode 1 - The Canary's Daughter(カナリアの娘)
Subtitle: The Canary's Daughter(カナリアの娘)
Lieutenant Kanbe drives to the Narita Airport to pick up Inspector Ukyō who had just returned to Japan from London. While driving back, they observe a motorcycle cop from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department talking to a driver in a car stopped on the shoulder of the highway. Inspector Ukyō voices that this is odd since the cop stopped the driver in Chiba Prefecture, outside the jurisdiction of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. Sure enough, the motorcycle's license plates are not found in the police database. Inspector Ukyō had also memorized the car's license plate number and uses it to track down the car's owner Yukio Imamiya(今宮 幸夫). They discover Mr. Imamiya's body at his residence.
Shortly afterwards, Superintendent Supervisor Onoda receives a call from an old acquaintance and wanted terrorist Atsundo Honda(本多 篤人). Honda tells the superintendent supervisor that some terrorist-wannabe threatened his daughter's life and forced him to come back to Japan. These would-be-terrorists want Honda to prepare a bomb for them.
The police realize that the man driving Mr. Imamiya's car in Chiba Prefecture was Honda and they start to investigate in full force. The Keishichō starts to hunt for Mr. Imamiya's killer and the Kōanbu tries to track down Honda's whereabouts while the Superintendent Supervisor assigns the Tokumeigakari pair to protect Mari. They, however, spectacularly fail at this task when Mari is kidnapped just a short time after they take her to a hotel for safety. How did the kidnappers know where Mari was staying? Can the Tokumeigakari pair rescue Mari and prevent the bomb from being used by the terrorists? Will Honda be apprehended after all these years or will he slip through and fade away into darkness once more?
