Subtitle: Disappearing Bullet(消える銃弾)
Tōru Ariga(有賀 徹), a gossip-column journalist, died after being shot outside his office, but the CSIs can't find the bullet responsible for his death nor any trace of gunpowder residue. Inspector Ukyō recalls one person who might be able to manufacture such a gun, Takeshi Tomashino(苫篠 武). The inspector visits Tomashino at his factory. There, the inspector finds out that Tomashino's son Kōichi had passed away. Investigating Kōichi's death, the Tokumeigakari pair discover that Hideshi Towada(十和田 秀志), the owner of an architectural firm, rescinded a job offer and canceled his daughter Keiko's engagement to Kōichi because Kōichi's father was an extremist involved with anti-government activities when he was young.
When Towada is also shot with a similarly disappearing bullet, Tomashino is placed at the top of the list of suspects. Was Tomashino really responsible for the murder, and what is the secret behind the disappearing bullet? The Tokumeigakair pair rush to catch the shooter before the mysterious gun claims its third victim.
This is the first time we see Constable Serizawa(芹沢 慶二), completing the "Investigator Trio (トリオ・ザ・捜一 - Trio the Sōichi. Sōichi is short for sōsaikka)."
Other characters appearing/mentioned in the story
Tōru Ariga(有賀 徹) - 43 year old gossip columnist who was murdered by the mysterious gun at the start of the episode.
Takeshi Tomashino(苫篠 武) - Former member of an extremist society and current manager of a local factory. He has the know-how to make a gun described in the story. His son committed suicide.
Kōichi Tomashino(苫篠 孝一) - Takeshi's son and Keiko's former fiancee. He was a promising architect who committed suicide.
Harumi Aoyama(青山 晴美) - She works for a bentō-shop. For some reason, she always delivers two bentō sets to Tomashino even though Tomashino is the only person at the factory.
Hideshi Towada(十和田 秀志) - Architect and owner of the architectural firm Towada Hideshi Architectural Designs(十和田ヒデシ建築デザイン). He reneged on a promise to hire Kōichi and also canceled his daughter's engagement to Kōichi. He was brought to the Kiyoe General Hospital(聖恵総合病院) after he was shot with the same mysterious gun that took Tōru Ariga's life.
Keiko Towada(十和田 ケイコ) - Hideshi's daughter and Kōichi's former fiancee.
Trivia
Towada Hideshi Architectural Designs(十和田ヒデシ建築デザイン) is located in the same building as Tatsumi Development from episode 9 of season 1. We see a glimpse of Tacchan the mascot for Tatsumi Development near the climax of the episode.
