Subtitle: A Boy and a Gold Coin(少年と金貨)
Sergeant Kaoru spots a man acting suspiciously near a vending machine. The man, Kazuya Odajima(小田島 和也), hesitantly explains to the sergeant that his son dropped a coin which fell under the vending machine. The sergeant tries to help them by swiping the area beneath the vending machine with a nearby stick. To Sergeant Kaoru's surprise, \a gold coin not normally found in circulation comes sliding out from the vending machine.
The sergeant takes both father and son to a nearby police station and calls Inspector Ukyō. It turns out that the coin is a twenty yen gold coin, one of only 29 ever minted during the Meiji era. The coin is estimated to fetch more than 20 million yen in the market today. The inspector also tells the sergeant that a coin collector was murdered and robbed at his home nearby a short time ago. By the time Sergeant Kaoru finishes and returns from the phone call, Kazuya had run away, leaving his son behind. Did Kazuya murder the coin collector and steal the valuable gold coin?

Kazuya Odajima(小田島 和也) - The boy's father who lost a stolen gold coin under the vending machine. He lost his job (actually gave it up to another employee who was about to be fired) and argued with his wife who left him and the boy for another man. He is a part time air condition unit installer and has installed an air conditioner unit at the Kurano's mansion.
Masahiko Odajima(小田島 雅彦) - Kazuya's son, but not related to him by blood.
Mayumi Odajima(小田島 まゆみ) - Kazuya's wife and Masahiko's mother. She is Masahiko's biological mother, but she ran away leaving both her son and husband after Kazuya lost his job.
Akiko Matsukane(松金 彰子) - Curator at a museum of historic coins(貨幣博物館). Her son is a budding violinist planning to continue his studies in Vienna.
Zenjirō Kurano(倉野 善次郎) - Famous coin collector who was robbed and murdered.
Toshio Tabuchi(田淵 俊夫) - Owner of an antique coin store Tabuchi Shōkai(田淵商会), He was formerly known as Uzaki(宇崎) when he was arrested for trading fake coins. Inspector Ukyō noticed that he had daibōfūtō in his store.
Hajime Nishi(西 肇) - Inspector working at Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's second division. Inspector Ukyō asked him to check Toshio Tabuchi(田淵 俊夫)'s background.
